Listen to a mix from Karl Meier—or better yet, go see him DJ—and you'll hear a refreshing counterpoint to today's glut of greyscale techno sets. Meier's selections reflect a deep, enduring knowledge of electronic music, one cultivated for many years in the Midwest's underground scene. His sets are encyclopedic explorations through decades of techno and beyond. Quite simply, Meier knows his shit.  

Born in upstate New York, Meier spent most of his life in Chicago, first growing up in the western suburbs before moving to the city proper nearly 20 years ago. His credentials, if you want to call them that, are pretty much impeccable. He's worked at key Chicago record shops Reckless, Dave's Records and, most importantly, Gramaphone. Along with countless bookings at smartbar and around Chicago, he's been hosted by leading US techno crews like Interdimensional Transmissions in Detroit and The Bunker in Brooklyn. A crucial international connection occurred in 2002. After meeting Karl O'Connor, AKA Regis, at a rave in Ohio, Meier spent a year in the UK working at his distribution company, Integrale Muzique. More recently, as calls for overseas bookings have increased, he moved to Berlin (Text by Brian Kolada).

rus'me gets the remix treatment from Answer Code Request, Ben Sims & Pangaea. This is the first of two EPs featuring remixes of tracks from the Trus'me Planet 4 album. Answer Code Request takes Our Future into new territory with two outstanding mixes. Remix 1 moves things to a much more sinister & foreboding place. Tightening the feel & tension of the original with all the hallmarks of classic Berlin techno. Remix 2 winds up & coils the track into a searing workout of early 90's hardcore breakbeat. Ben Sims takes control of Ring Round Heart, pushing the tempo & creating a whole new urgency in the track. This is proper no nonsense heads down business & tight as you like. The mix builds excellently well & manages to produce an epic amount of feel and emotion, dropping in & out of the groove with a sneaky breakbeat & vocal dubs. Pangaea tackles one of the albums more esoteric tracks in The Unexplained. He manages to work a wonderfully intriguing steppers beat which drops from nowhere after the highly beguiling metronomic extended opening. The tracks are getting plenty of play & plaudits from likes of Ben UFO, DJ Deep, Bicep & Anthony Parasole.
