This is my second guest mix for the GreenFingers Collective

The first mix I did, a few weeks ago, "Love is The Message (Tears in The Rain Mix) was quite heavy and took probably the most energy, thought, rehearsing, discovery, re-selection, re-sequencing and re-mixing out of the 1000’s of mixes that I’ve ever done. But that mix had a very specific intention which is very personal to me.

So with this mix “Surfin the Groove - (More Reverb on the Dub Mix)” I just wanted to feel free, like I was a surfer, riding the sonic waves.

By focusing on certain parts of the each song, my intention is to shine a light on the groove, my sole focus being, to then simply to surf that groove wave for as long as possible.

I also just wanted to give a big shout of thanks to Steve MindTwin for giving me a copy of What is Reality - a majestic slice of the finest dub techno that I've ever heard. I also wamted to thank the original Dub Pirate - KillaSoundBoy for the equally sublime Bubble No Trouble...."Round 2" my friend.

I hope you enjoy it at least half as much as I've absolutely loved putting it together.

SUNANDBASS Podcast #38 – @f-d & @i_am_arpxp

Welcome to a special edition of the SUNANDBASS Podcast! 

As of September, SUNANDBASS will be bringing it’s own label to the table once again. With some of the artists closely affiliated to the festival making some great music, SUNANDBASS wanted to release it to the community and share their sound to further represent what the festival stands for.

FD and ArpXP are these artists, and their first EP for SUNANDBASS will be released in early September to coincide with this year’s edition of the festival. 

Featuring two tracks from each artist, the EP covers a range of moods and feelings, and each forthcoming release will do the same. Just as with the festival, the releases will not be restricted in style and will showcase the amazing width drum and bass has to offer.

ArpXP and FD have kindly put together this months Podcast to gives us a great insight into what they stand for musically. Flowing smoothly between a wide range of flavours, they have a trained ear for digging out both the freshest new music and the essential classics, and seamlessly weave them together here.

"I never thought I would have had to organise “ A Night  for Spirit” but with what has happened & the fact he was my first booking when I was asked to be an honorary curator for the 15th anniversary of Sun & Bass. My heart was heavy but it was my responsibility as Spirit was one of my boys for real!

I want to send a heartfelt thank you to all the artists who stepped up on the night and made it an absolutely fabulous tribute to him and his music... and to you the Sun and Bass crew/ravers thank you for joining us and making every moment memorable we really raised the roof for Spirit.

Liquid Drums Vol.12

1994 - die Zeit, in der man einen Club nur mit Trillerpfeife und Schweißerbrille betreten wollte, lagen lange hinter uns. ;) Es waren nun schon 3 Jahre vergangen, seitdem wir von diesem „Techno-Virus“ infiziert wurden. 3 Jahre, in denen all unser Geld (das war nicht gerade viel als Azubi bzw. Student) in Platten bzw. die Anschaffung zweier Technics floss. Neben dem gleichen Musikgeschmack verband uns, dass wir uns regelmäßig im Musikladen beim Platten-Durchwühlen im Weg standen (weil der andere grad mal wieder das letzte Exemplar der neuen Djax-Up ergattert hatte). Naja, im Elastic, der Distillery oder in der Duschkabine hat man sich auch öfters gesehen. Einig waren wir uns jedenfalls darin, dass die Leipziger Club- und Partylandschaft mehr bieten sollte. Zur Gründung von "Unknown Species" hat dann nicht mehr viel gefehlt. Der Reiz und vor allem die Lust, einfach mal was Eigenes auf die Beine zu stellen war einfach da!
Fortan beschäftigten wir uns also damit, geeignete Locations zu finden. Unter den damals noch oft ungeklärten Eigentumsverhältnissen, war das vergleichsweise einfach. Zur Organisation von Bar, Deko, Anlage u.s.w. standen uns jederzeit zahlreiche Helfer zur Seite. Unser Logo sollte ein Embryo sein, gepaart mit dem Namen Unknown Species irgendwie cool!
Am 16.05.1995 war es dann so weit. Wir luden zu unserem ersten Ding in ein altes Fabrikgebäude in Leipzig Eutritzsch. Insgesamt 9 eigene Parties und einige Beteiligungen an anderen Projekten und Partys sind’s dann über einen Zeitraum von 8 Jahren doch geworden.
Mittlerweile sind wir alle „Mittvierziger“ und im allgemeinen Lebensstress versunken, haben aber noch regelmäßigen Kontakt zueinander. Eines ist aber geblieben: Die Liebe zur Elektronischen Musik ist immer noch präsent und verbindet uns!
