The monthly hike with Virgil always concludes with a visit to 點心餅家 - Touch Of The Heart Bakery. A morning connecting with nature and reminiscing about Hong Kong always leads us to this legendary institution. Established in 1922, by a family of immigrants from Hong Kong. This place never fails to fascinate me on multiple fronts every single time I go. Whether it is the sizzling tray of egg tarts coming straight out of the oven, seeing the bakers zoned in, creating magic or its ability to transport me spiritually to Hong Kong. Something I don’t think I can comprehend myself.

So to celebrate 100 Years of Touch Of The Heart Bakery. We have curated this special project with some mega talented people. Hopefully this reflecting 4 Generations, dedication to the craft. The craft of literally touching hearts and creating smiles. Also was super to see Florence, a long time friend and next in line to take over at the bakery. Both being in the same year class at Chinese School decades ago, sharing a love for Marvin Gaye, Ryo Fukui and of course edits. She left me with some wonderful words by her late grandfather (Heard this from Jimmy Iovine too!) - “Give yourself time, to make something that will last forever. Egg Tart. A Timeless Art”

EGG TART EDITS II: Joy Orbison, Boddika & Pearson Sound - Faint (Dyslectas Weaker Edit)

Hessle Audio welcomes Toumba to the label with the 4 track EP 'Petals'. Based in Amman, Jordan, Toumba explores Levantine microtonality, rhythms, play styles and timbres across the record. Lead track 'Istibtan' is a twist on a typical Jordanian wedding song with deep subs providing the foundations, complimented by crisp percussion and warm melodics.

Toumba is a producer, DJ and sound designer and is a curator at MNFA, a club and arts space in Jordan's capital Amman. A nationally respected artist, Toumba also holds a residency at the MMAG Foundation. The foundation works with a selection of the most gifted artists in the Levant, providing a space for artistic research, production and critical discourse.

2023 has been a great year for Bradley Hutchings aka Guava. Alongside many successful dance singles and remixes, his self-released debut album ‘Out Of Nowhere’ is a gorgeous blend of indie electronica that steps away from his typical club focussed productions. 2024, however, sees Guava move back towards the dancefloor with his latest EP Afterglow, which drops on Faux Poly on March 8th. Since rooting himself in Berlin, Guava has drawn inspiration from across the different facets of the city, something that is strongly reflected in this release.

The opening track ‘Angel’ is a dark trip, born out of experiments with reverb and guitar harmonics influenced by UK Bass and Dubstep, an ethereal techno track described by the artist as “guitar music for Berghain”. Next up is ‘140 Drums’, an essential DJ club tool, a chopped stuttering break and hoover bass roll through a restrained but surprisingly heavy hitting finale to the EP. 

‘F641’ accelerates with continuously pitching synth stabs and a rumbling low end. Inspired by F1, the track hits hard and never stops ramping up. Finally the title track ‘Afterglow’ brings a lightness and warmth to the release, delicately catchy and rooted with a bouncy house beat, the sound of Berlin in Guava’s productions is unmistakably clear.

"Putting together this EP has been a joy for me. All of the tracks are little bookmarks for the past year. I live in Berlin, and it has had an immersive effect on my music. From the grey and cold winters, trudging down a windy street in Warschauer Straße, to the hot summer in Neukolln, where the air is thick and warm, and dance music echoes off the city buildings

Drawing inspiration from field recordings in Sweden's Skåne region, Martinou forges a connection with the natural world, amplifying the essence of stone, salt, and wood. The result is a signature Martinou style: minimal yet emotionally resonant tracks built on a mysteriously pulsating groove.

Our premiere today, "Boulder Ridge," is propelled by a robust, rumbling groove underpinning a subtle synth sequence and a melancholic yet simple melody that burrows into your mind from the first listen.
