Free Shelter invites the Patrick Mahomes of Hamburgs club scene and one half of the Isle of Wax duo, not_david, for the 31st guest mix on their series at @ida_radio.

Davin Underwood is one-half of the Hamburg-based duo @isleofwax, notable for their long-running party series and residency at Golden Pudel, as well as their DJ mix series and Youtube channel dedicated to lesser-known records that deserve a second look.

On the solo route, he's the host of 'uniform variations' on Hamburg's hallo:radio, where he explores classic and contemporary sounds in electronic music from ambient to club-oriented dance music. He has also contributed guest mixes to reputable radio stations and mix series such as The Lot Radio, Refuge Worldwide, Headphone Magic, and CTW Podcasts.

For this mix he travels through esoteric, lower tempoed trancy bits that's perfect for a mid february weekend starter. Seeing as Valentine's day was just around the corner, we recommend putting this one on with one (or many) of your loved ones.

bit of a conceptual one incoming, connecting dots of passion (note: obessesions), and following a linear of sound throughout a life so far. like loose threads of a sweater stitched in my mind from sonic moments, being gently pulled to unravel that part of why i love spooky sounds and shit like that is from growing up and going to theme parks. i’ve always been summoned first and foremost to the the simulation of being haunted in them, with the baddest rides always featuring ghouls and howls of lament, and the best coasters always being monsters to be taken by. 

my family theme park Alton Towers was particularly hooked on horror based attractions in the 90s and early 00’s, ranging from unearthed aliens discovered underground tamed by the twisted steel of the coaster, fragments of voices echoing from the woods and the undead spirits lost in them, paganistic rituals of death, or machines created by dystopian regimes to reduce you to nothing (shouts out oblivion which features in the outro, perhaps the first drum n bass tune i ever heard!).

this mix is largely composed of scores written for these attractions, and also from field recordings i took myself largely from a recent trip to Disneyland Paris (shouts out to my sisters 30th bday and the salt family). the amount of hidden corners such as stalagmite caves eroded from time to forgotten manors kept deathly alive by its remaining and never to leave residents with their own soundtracks is next level. take this as a collage of these haunted moments in sound (given a suitable lvl of fx fuckery throughout). preferably listened to at night. 

also, given an extended suite at the start and woven throughout is the soundtrack and field recordings from Phantom Manor, a masterpiece in its own right, a true storyteller beyond the visual sights, and a VIP of music within my life.

Polito are a group of musicians who have just released a new album called ‘Collapse Phase’. The record is self described as “a meeting of improvised contemporary dance and live improvised techno music, working together to create entrancing performance experiences”.

Drawing upon a broad array of influences the music has a number of multifaceted touch points – Dub, Techno, IDM, House and the spaces in between are all explored through a unique approach driven by live improvisation and collaboration.

Polito is a collaboration between musicians Robert Downie and Finnian Langham, and dancers Arabella Frahn-Starkie and Hillary Goldsmith.

This mixtape showcases their diverse approach to sound design and helps to build a narrative around the group and what their music means.

Esther’s also cofounder of @paradisegardencdf (alongside @david_j_bull ) which is well worth a visit for the hi-fi, cosy hurt outback, and great music heads community - exactly the sort of place we need more of
