What can be said that hasn't already been about Karl O'Connor? A total legend  in the game and we had a lot of fun welcoming him back to play a solo set for Plex after previously appearing with Function as Sandwell District a few years back. This was his 2nd set of the night having played earlier this very same evening alongside Ancient Methods as Ugandan Methods.

This one was a 5am madness with a super receptive crowd and a lot of mic action from the main man Regis. He had the crowd eating out of his hand the whole way through as only Karl knows how. One of THE best sets we ever had the privilege of having on at Plex.

It's fair to say that 2012 for us was a pretty busy year for Plex parties. This one was a joint effort with Perc Trax and was yet another belter. If memory serves it didn't stop raining all night/morning and was on the jubilee weekend so we all had Monday off (hence this being the only party we ever did on a Sunday).

This is an all vinyl set is from the wonderful Bethany DeMoss AKA DJ Skirt who was releasing some amazing music on Horizontal Ground and Semantica around this time so we just had to get her on. We had a few technicals with one of the decks which had to be switched out during her set at the start, but once that drama subsided it was all systems go.  

This is a really deep and hypnotic techno workout which for me was one of the best things I heard on the night, so sharing this now 12 years on seems the right thing to do.

I was blessed to play midday Saturday again. Daytime allows so much freedom, but 90 minutes is too short. This is a rerecording of my set. I changed the order of a few tracks, added four more that I wanted to play but didn't have time for, and let the key ending track breathe for its full 15 minutes.

No tracklist this time at least for now, but happy to ID anything.

Although Marco Roehrich focused his studies on the cinematographic field, his gaze and his feet always pointed towards electronic music. Thus, when he had the opportunity to develop the LAUT project, he poured his soul into it and, not surprisingly, he ended up creating what most electronic music geeks consider the best club in Barcelona nowadays.

Eclectic, without clinging to any specific genre, lover of different rhythm and always defined by a critera that tries to surprise without sacrificing quality, Roehrich is a reliable and daring selector.

This dj set is a recording of Roehrich’s debut at his beloved LAUT, on the 22nd of March ‘24, warming up the dancefloor before the b2b set of Vanity Dust and Headbirds.

TILECT with #09 Roehrich

Last Saturday, 05/25, I had the opportunity to develop one of my DJ sets called 'Vanishing Point, music to fade away', within the installation 'Round Sky and Square Earth (天圆地⽅)' in front of an attentive audience, given over to listening. The installation and its title seemed to me like the setting for a lyrical, mysterious and delicate fairy tale. (More info below)

The installation that puts the work of Yu Depeng and Lucía Loren in dialogue, curated by Mateo Feijóo, with the participation of the collective Habitar el Esparto and Josephine’ Soundscapes.

Starting from the singularity of traditional Chinese thought as an alternative for social and environmental sustainability, which Yu Depeng proposes, Mateo Feijóo imagines a collage in which several views are superimposed.

The proposal enters into dialogue with the Clima Fitness installation, which currently occupies the Intermediae space, to imagine an ancestral gym where to experience collaboration networks based on social and environmental sustainability.

Mental and hypnotic, this is what best defines Onohno’s music, which always seeks to create bridges between different genres of electronic music.

Drawing inspiration from both deep-techno and the club techno scene, as well as the free party tribe, he develops a hybrid, abstract aesthetic of electronic music, oscillating between erratic, mechanical rhythms and organic, percussive sounds with the aim of taking the audience on a psychedelic, immersive and disorienting journey.

With this in mind, he founded Akalara, a soundcloud podcast series and label in which he invites emerging artists to propose and promote their vision of this psychedelic, experimental music.

Human Lessons #086 - Onohno

Josef Gaard (@josefgaard) is a project focused on music as a conduit. Originally based in the Seattle area and now settled in Berlin, he has been sharing his salient sound through productions and performances for years. With a 12" coming up on @kalawila ’s Mountain Explosion Device, he is continuing to push his music forward with a distinct touch. This mix showcases the different edges of his musical sphere, from nordic house to electro to techno and back again.

This Thursday 2 August he plays at OHM alongside the special live debut of Acronym (@4cr0nym) & @kali-malone.

His penchant for both ambient music and dance-floor oriented styles has landed him at some of the best venues across Europe. His recent record, "2929" on Mountain Explosion Device saw him working with artists such as @Kalawila and @Dorisburg and gained international acclaim.

As usual, we asked Josef to share a few words to describe his approach to our invitation:

"My approach to this mix was very simple. I generally tend to want to build into a more peak time mood at some point while mixing, so my goal here was to practice restraint and working with a longer arc instead. I enjoy mixes that achieve this so I thought it was my turn to try something suited for both active and passive listening."

Little side note: Josef decided to release this mix with the artwork curated by his friend Oscar Rohleder instead of using the usual press picture.
