Baudelaires poetries remain one of the most influential centrepieces in my book collection and they are maybe my most re-read volume of poems. Like all great poets he was an acute observer and an ingenious translator of feelings. His words paint precise and poignant pictures of the shapeless and inenarrable, like a mood or a sentiment. Sometimes only music can have the same effect on me. However, the fascination and the bloom of „Les Fleurs du Mal“ goes beyond that. Baudelaire's observations, could be considered overall as „negative“, for example as pessimistic - like the unfulfilled human pursuit of integrity -, or as repulsive - like the tristesse of urban hedonism. Induced by the linguistic beauty the emotional experiencing of the seemingly „negative“ or „evil“ - which in some places of the book can be kind of an explicit sense of self - transforms into a bittersweet atmosphere that holds grace and grandeur. Here I see a strong commonality with some music I love and I feel there is a similar approach entire music genres might have pursued: Maybe more than other art forms, music is sometimes met with refusal, confusion and lack of understanding when things become aestheticised, that are distasteful, obnoxious, cruel or - to stay with Baudelaire - „evil“. But behind all this stands a reality, the musician as an acute observer is witness to. Ars longa, vita brevis.

This mix, rather a sound collage, is meant to sonically illustrate the pictures Baudelaire put in my mind; sometimes a direct reflection of the texts, sometimes a associative pairing to the feelings Baudelaire's words elicit. BLANK #9 - "LES FLEURS DU MAL COLLAGE" BY ANCIENT METHODS

HOUND presents the second podcast series mix from @blush-response . BLUSH_RESPONSE is the vehicle for Cuban/American musician Joey Blush's research into the sonic dimension. Reports occur at sporadic intervals, usually in concurrence with the discovery of new planes of existence. Born in Miami, and now stationed in Berlin, Blush has brought his sound experiments to a worldwide audience. He has toured around the world as a solo artist, and as a member of groups such as Scar the Martyr and Front Line Assembly.  He is also a sound designer, having done work for companies such as Elektron, Yamaha, and Arturia, and programming on records from Fear Factory, Cristian Castro, and many more.  Blush expresses his sound through deep meditation with his electronic instruments, focusing on the interaction between human and machine.  He seeks to both influence and harness the unpredictability of complex electronic instrumentation, in an effort to create an direct expression of his emotions.  This sonic ritualism is exemplified in his prolific reporting of fractalized audio sculpture.  Blush owns the MEGASTRUCTURE_ label, a haven for sounds on the fringes of reality. You can find his releases on labels such as Schematic, Aufnahme + Wiedergabe, Ant-Zen, Sonic Groove, and his own MEGASTRUCTURE_.

Crystal Geometry is the latest project from underground electronic music veteran, Maxime Fabre. Inspired by Post-Punk, Black Metal and Industrial, the French producer and live artist has returned to his roots, a crossover between the warehouse rave scene of the 90’s and industrial music, mixing EBM influences with hardcore Techno.
Centered around an ever-growing modular system, the project is based upon live improvisation with dedicated hardware, relentless hard beats and haunting soundscapes. Recognition of the project’s output has continued to penetrate the underground circuit, with a growing catalogue of high-impact productions, released across a number of labels; SARIN’s, X-IMG, Parisian imprint RND. Records, Spain’s Darkwave synth driven, Oraculo Records, Marseille-based Caisson Gauche and a debut album on Berlin-based Noise and Industrial label, AREA Z.

The eclectic sounds of the Polish-born, Berlin based artist MELANIA . are mostly based on Industrial / Techno / EBM, which she periodically combines with a creative touch of unexpected change of atmosphere and structure. Focused entirely on her feelings she stays beyond limitations to a specific genre. Co-founder of the polish event series VERZERRUNG (Projekt Lab, Poznan) and a frequent resident at swiss ORDEN (Basel).

She is the one hundred and sixty-five guest. This is a second part of her closing set at the aufnahme + wiedergabe showcase at FOLD in London, last May.

Sarin is an audio/video and industrial technoid electronics project based out of Berlin and originally from Toronto. His latest full length release “Moral Cleansing” came out on Phase Fatale & Florian Engerling’s BITE imprint in November 2019 with previous releases on that label including the “Kuleshov Effect” and the “Will to Destroy” collaborative with Imperial Black Unit before that. His first two 12” releases “Current Conflict” and “Shifting Allegiance” came out in 2016 and 2017 on the venerable German label [Aufnahme + Wiedergabe]. Sarin is also half of the projects Konkurs (with Blush_Response), Human Performance Lab (with Matt Cangiano) & Nostromo (with Unhuman).

He is also the founder of X-IMG; an audio/video platform focused on showcasing fresh unknown producers alongside more familiar artists all operating within the world of underground dark electronics and body-techno dystopias.
