Mixed from vinyl only, just 2 decks, mixer and a box of very early US and Euro techno rarities from 1989 and 1990.
Volume one in this series of mixes covering the best and most underground tracks from the 1989-1990 period of the rave scene , post acid house and pre-jungle when the tempo was slow but the tracks sounded heavy with throbbing basslines, lots of electronic synthesizers and slamming beats.

1. Simstah - Fragmented 
Warm pads, subtle teases of piano and hearty vocals light up the sparse, but catchy intro from Berne homie Simstah, just to surprise on the drop when switching things to a a gritty bassline funk affair with irresistible groove. The classy track beautifully alternates between two poles, letting the dark contrast with the light and falling back from the leading heavyweight riff to its more emotional undertone again. 

2. OctaState - OMB
Our brother from St Gallen in the far East of Switzerland delivers his trademark simplistic, yet highly energetic style, starting off with vintage style synth samples and vocal chops, enough to build up great tension before unleashing a massive warping b-line sustained by an uberpowerful kick and snare rhythm - peak time tuneage guaranteed to shake the walls of any warehouse

3. OctaState - Trace Tech 
Upbeat minimalist Rave stomper laced with lovely dubbed-out bleeps and effects that is very much an updated hommage to the Tech Step sound dominating the international scene around the millennium years. Faceslapping snares, relentlessly driven forward by the poignant kickdrum and the chest-hitting Sub Bass with maximum impact on the drop, this is anthemic stuff made for the big sound rigs. 


4. Simstah - Memories
Laidback summertime flex for the sunlovers with fat slices of 90s headnod nostalgia to close off the EP with superpowered oldschool breakbeats, rumbling bass hits and musical swooshes of cut-up funk and soul bits, showing Simstahs deep roots in Hip Hop and its sampling culture. If you remember strolling home from La Cinta Beach in Sardinia, this would make the perfect soundtrack.
