Amid reports that 57 children have died in Gaza from malnutrition since the Israeli aid blockade began on 2 March, the UN health agency warned on Tuesday that it only has enough supplies to treat 500 children. 

The World Health Organization (WHO) said that if the situation persists, nearly 71,000 children under the age of five are expected to be acutely malnourished over the next 11 months.

WHO spokesperson Dr Margaret Harris told UN News that treatment for the condition must be considered on a case-by-case basis but that all malnourished children need help immediately as they are at risk of dying.
