Despite a few technical problems (stage was quite moving and records jumped few times) -  I'm happy to share a very good memory from a couple of months ago at Mostra in Barcelona for the first edition of the festival.  An honest mix that is the good reflexion of what playing vinyl can also bring sometimes. Vand played an excellent live set before me and it was pure joy to be behind the decks on that day.  Souvenir is strong. Thanks to everyone for listening.

This is a studio mix, started with an initial live take and then combed over meticulously with automated filters, eq, and fx. This is the same setup I use to play out, minus the automation. There is rarely a point when only one track is playing. I always try to find mixes that feel like a new track emerges from the combination. I imagine the optimal listening environment to be eyes-closed with headphones on, but I also hope you will feel an irresistible urge to move at some points ;)

The sixth episode of our Herbarium series was recorded by the very talented Ina Kacz. It is composed of organic textures, intriguing grooves and tense harmonies - a great delight for mind and body. With this mix Ina features her connection to the plant 'Mimosa Pudica', also known as the sensitive or shy plant. She is fascintated by its elegant and fast movement when it protects itself in the way of closing down while being touched or during night time. Another specialty of this wonderful species is that it can even learn with time what kind of touches do no harm and which ones do. Ina can relate to this versatility and consciousness in her personality as an artist. Especially in this mix it is easy to recognize how precise and versatile she curated her selection and its interpretation. The atmosphere of the gentle and textural beginning evolves into energetic faster dancefloor oriented grooves, to come back to a very soothing soundscape. Truly like the opening and closing of the leaves, fitting to each moment.

Such is the sensation our next guest, ATAVEM, has delivered with this special hybrid mix, infusing his own material and field recordings into a carefully selected collection of drone and experimental music. 

A resident at the renowned club [PAL] in Hamburg where he co-founded the STRAP event series, he has been enticing audiences with his special brand of ethereal techno for years. Known for making ambient "tools" that are then weaved between mixes, here he lets the tools be pieces in their own right, delicately whisking the listener off to unknown places. So take a break from your screen, dim the lights, and enter a sense of deep time with this perfectly concocted hybrid set from ATAVEM.

IORI joins for DifferentSound Podcast #197.

Tokyo based DJ / Producer. Releasing music since 2008 such as Prologue, Phonica White , Semantica and Field Recoreds. 2020, start own label called VISIONARY. A skilful architect of layered, atmospheric techno, Okinawa-born / Tokyo-based producer IORI has landed some particularly powerful platters over the past decade, including top-of-the-range records for the likes of Phonica, Prologue, Field Records, Bassiani Records, Semantica, Mule Musiq and more. Clocking in with a strikingly deep, surgically executed delivery that blurs the lines between abstract functionality and asphyxiating oneirism, IORI rushes us headlong into a brooding, dim-lit tunnel of sound where each bar cuts like a razor. Cold-headed, clinical, all-round hypnotic two-hour jaunt from a master at the top of his game.

The creativity of Forest On Stasys is Influenced by tribal minimalist techno in the nineties and the deepest and most abstract techno currently. In his tracks the most seductive elements are the use of resonant basses perfectly combined with long and reverberated pads, extensive sonorous landscapes that are modified by continuous movement of LFO, solid grooves and strident percussions.

But not everything that comes out of his head is created with an intention to be used on the dance floor. He has a great admiration for drone and ambient tracks, without a rhythmic pattern that predominates, where the main factor is to captivate the listener with melodies that can be marked by a strong melancholy or with notes that give a certain feeling of satisfaction depending on his current mood.

At the beginning of 2019, he released his first  work 'A Vision Of Light' in Danza Nativa, where currently he is one of the pillars of the label based in Buenos Aires.
