mobilegirl is a DJ and producer based in Berlin. Her style behind the booth focuses on creating a highly energetic dance floor that allows for emotionality, for softer moments but also attention-demanding breaks and shifts. An equally fun and challenging combination that gained her traction very early on in her career and established her as an artist to watch in experimental club music – bringing about tours across Europe, East Asia and North America and a spot on the roster of DISCWOMAN. 
Reflecting her general curiosity mobilegirl's inspirations draw from a broad pool that intentionally make her rather difficult to categorise. However, she has made a name for herself through club edits of R&B classics; a predilection for which draws through all of her work. Another influence, not less apparent, are video game scores. Her fascination with the repetitive and soothing effect of music in RPGs accordingly set the foundation for her debut EP "Poise" released in 2017 - a string of tracks that at that time seemed untypically mellow but were created in an effort to decelerate and invite the listener to do the same. This project turned mobilegirl's inspiration into praxis. It opened up the doors for her to shift her focus towards scores of films, art installations and fashion shows the years after, while remaining a force on the dance floor.

8ULENTINA’s debut full length album ‘Surpassing Disaster’ is coming out on March 25th via SILLAGE, the first single ‘AYŞE’ is out today on bandcamp.

‘Surpassing Disaster’ is a research driven sonic narrative, enmeshing the theatricality of acoustic instruments from Arab orchestral and folk traditions with electronic elements. Themes of resurrection, restraint, illegibility, desire and spirituality are explored throughout tracks that move within ambient, sound design, field recordings, and dance music.

This project engages with the past as an active collaborator instead of source of nostalgia, acknowledging the immaterial withdrawal that follows surpassing disasters and the process of making an archive and working within an existing one as an attempted act of resurrection. ’Surpassing Disaster’ references Jalal Toufic’s text ‘The Withdrawal of Tradition Past a Surpassing Disaster’. The record includes collaborative track 'GNIVILNI’ featuring cellist Rohana and vocals by Nana XOXO. GNIVILNI’'s vocals reference and abstract Assata Shakur’s poem ‘Affirmation’. The improvisational collaboration between 8ULENTINA, Nana XOXO and Rohana is a convergence of our individual practices of sonic experimentation, performance and research.

‘Surpassing Disaster’ is the first release on 8ULENTINA’s label SILLAGE, a curatorial platform for contemporary sonic artifacts.

Esra Canoğulları, also known as 8ULENTINA, is a New York based interdisciplinary artist, music producer, and DJ. Known for his dynamic DJ sets and genre-defying compositions, 8ULENTINA’s projects are characterized by his use of sound design, percussive intensity, storytelling and theatricality. 8ULENTINA co-founded CLUB CHAI (2016–2021), a record label and curatorial platform based in Oakland, California with Lara Sarkissian and currently runs SILLAGE, a platform for contemporary sonic artifacts.

British producers and DJs MM (@djdoublem94) and Suda (@sudanim) joined forces at Unsound 2018 to present a brand new collaborative show in a vast, abandoned industrial kitchen in Hotel Forum. Working with music, fog and light, the artists created an immersive experience, combining the sleek futuristic textures and heavy drums of hybrid club music. This exclusive podcast is the first recorded sound of Async Figure available online and a taste of what's to come. Next up in our series of recordings live from the booth is Lee Gamble. This one's from a steamy summer night in August during which we tipped our hats to essential UK label Hyperdub in celebration of their 15th birthday. 

In between a stellar opening b2b from local rave heroes Akanbi & DJ Temporary, and leading into a serious beatdown from label boss Kode9 (that started with Burial, nonetheless), Lee Gamble's set exemplified the wild-style, distinctly UK sound the label has been pioneering for well over a decade now.

There's something in the air on special nights like these, and Gamble channeled it to his full advantage, resulting in a set that was nothing short of outrageous. It's a two hour rollercoaster through genre & tempo, spanning sub-destroying bass & grime, dubstep infusions, plenty of breaks and a hefty dose of freaky techno. Full of unpredictable twists and turns while always remaining highly danceable and exceptionally fun, Lee blew the roof off and the minds out with one of the most mental sets we've heard in our two years between the stacks. 

Big love to all steppers in the place for this one, to the Groovy Groovy crew for the support, to Lou for all the technical finesse and the Lee for the tunes.
