Silent Servant is the primary pseudonym of California electronic artist Juan Mendez, who produces techno with a heavy post-punk/industrial influence. He first began releasing material as Silent Servant during the mid-2000s, when he was a key member of the influential techno collective Sandwell District. Following numerous well-received underground singles, he made a major impact on the techno world with Negative Fascination, his acclaimed 2012 full-length debut. Following Mendez's co-founding of the Jealous God label in 2013, as well as several singles and collaborations with the likes of Marcel Dettmann and Phase Fatale, Silent Servant released his second album, the more overtly EBM-influenced Shadows of Death and Desire, in 2018.  2023 sees Mendez continuing to Play the US and Europe, New releases On L.I.E.S., Tresor and maintaining his sixth year of the Optimistic Decay radio show on NTS.

Terminamos el mes de febrero de gala con una sesión llegada por los designios del destino. Un vecino carabanchelero de Kintsugi tenía que ser. Coleccionista de vinilos desde que era adolescente, comenzó montando raves en la sierra en el ‘96 con su colectivo RC899. Participó activamente en la producción de las míticas raves de Barajas (2001-2003), ayudando a conformar y dar el protagonismo que merecía a la incipiente escena de colectivos de la época.

En 2003 monta junto a Miguel Guirado (Substuff) el grupo de humor electrónico Blue Vulva & The Electronic Crooner haciendo bailar y reír al público durante los 15 años que estuvieron en activo. 

En su faceta de Dj aprovecha su extensa colección de discos para abordar casi cualquier estilo adoptando el nombre de Speederman para las sesiones más rápidas y Speven Stielberg para las más “calmadas” como puede ser la de este podcast número 80 para Kintsugi.

A Walking Contradiction welcomes Sciama to the fold and adds another full EP of oscillating rhythm workouts to the catalogue. AWC009 densely packs fast moving, ultra focused soundtrips. From breathtaking drone scapes to wiggly high-paced rhythm experiments, all sublimely sound designed with a focus on the low ends.

Sciama's soundscapes are accompanied by an essay of writer and researcher Asia Bazdyrieva. Pixels densely packed*** expands on the contemporary media surrounds that wrap and entrap us. A constant stream of images and sounds of atrocities and genocidal violence transforms into an anaesthetising haze, ever present and indispensable, yet easily ignored.
