Left Behind is the first single from pecq’s third EP ‘Amnesia’s Ritual’ - their most personal and powerful record yet, emerging from the experience of losing several friends before their time. Lovingly crafted but emotionally raw, the songs pay tribute to those missed and look unflinchingly at the conflict and chaos of grieving and the vastness of loss.

Left Behind was written in the aftermath of a close friend’s suicide. It explores the multiple detached realities of grief, the way time perception becomes jumbled and non-linear, and the inability to process life moving forward with someone missing.

‘I wrote my first ever songs just after the suicide of one of my closest friends and former bandmate. I think everything I’ve written since then has been about that in some way. Music has been a way to stay connected to them and process the intensity of the things I saw and experienced. This song is the first time I’ve felt able to deal with a lot of stuff I was too scared to revisit before. A big part of that was writing the lyrics with Jakes which helped to distill and accept things that felt too big for my own words. Being able to share these intense feelings has been the best way for me to deal with them. I wouldn’t be where I’m at today if I hadn’t been able to talk to friends and make music’. Nikò

'closer' is the new single from pecq - producer and multi-instrumentalist duo Hannah (Jakes) Jacobs (keys player for Arlo Parks) and Niko O'Brien (engineer for the likes of Liz Fraser and Porij). The innovative pair create 'pop at its most exploratory' [Clash] and have been featured by the likes of BBC Radio 1 and 2, Amazing Radio Top 40, Bandcamp Front Page, NOTION and the 6 Music Introducing Best of 2022.

closer was written and produced across numerous different time zones, zeroing in on the psychological impact of distance between loved ones. Referencing the experimental, spiraling work of Boards Of Canada and Ultraísta along with the meditative songwriting of Sampha and Caribou as influences on their music, pecq ride the line between electronic and indie - real drums slowly morphing into glitchy samples, classic synth tones and soft piano coming in and out of focus, sounds re-sampled and mangled through DIY studio equipment, tape-machines, spring-reverbs and modern computer processes.

The focus track ‘in the dark’ is about a situationship, falling for someone who’s avoidant and getting burnt.

‘I’ve been on both sides of the situationship vibe and they’re isolating in their own way - one cos you’re chasing an unattainable version of someone and the other cos you can’t let someone in. So it’s not a ragey situationship revenge song, it’s about that empty feeling at the end of the night when you wanted to feel closer to someone but just feel more alone’’

pecq unveil LVRA’s brand new reworking of closer, the standout single from their last EP 'red moon, rare night'.

Taken from the forthcoming expanded edition of pecq’s last EP, LVRA’s remix reimagines the original track, slowing its tempo and transforming it into a brooding and eerily cinematic new version. 

The remix is a disarming re-imagining; deconstructing the original energy of closer and reassembling it with a slowed tempo, ethereal soundscapes, and a palpable sense of longing. LVRA strips everything down, opting for a more minimalist, atmospheric arrangement that allows the emotional depth of Hannah Jacobs’ vocals to shine through. The remix emphasizes the raw vulnerability of the vocal performance, surrounding the voice with haunting, swirling synths and a subtle, suffocating tension.
