One of the TAU family’s prodigious talents, Upercent, returns for a four-track expedition into the creative expanse of his brilliant mind. The EP opens with ‘Tranqui Tronco’, a nifty roller driven by dense percussion. A repeated vocal motif appears as the intro guides the listener into the first breakdown. Upercent’s use of unusual sounds and effects demonstrate his unmistakable sonic fingerprint, as the cut increases in vibrancy. Another breakdown raises the temperature even higher and the track rolls out with the same contagious, driving rhythm.	
		
‘Nuquelar’ follows, with a deep tribal rhythm oscillating at its core. As we dive head first into this cut, hefty drums and a range of urgent chimes and instrumental licks add depth. Warped vocals are also looped into the fold, creating a cacophony of odd sounds as Upercent carefully builds the tension with a huge breakdown. The energetic release brings us back down to Earth with the persistent rumble of booming drums taking the track to its conclusion.	
				
The penultimate cut is ‘Tempesta’, another dark and dense composition. Upercent’s talent for keeping it simple yet engaging, and just that little bit different, is evident here from the very start. This cut’s dramatic narrative keeps you locked in, as the percussion especially plays out a capti- vating story. A moment of peaceful reflection is injected at the midpoint, before we’re immersed in sonic theatrics once more. Moody drums and solemn bass giving this one its gloomy atmosphere.					
Finally, ‘Ruta’ closes the EP with its insistent energy. In typical Upercent style, this cut develops in a considered manner with layers of sound building steadily, cultivating a sinister atmosphere. The voice of a maniacal character enters the fray halfway through, accentuating the unset- tling vibes. An ominous tone pervades throughout, leaving the listener fully immersed in the dark side as the EP comes to an end...

Valencia-born Upercent's debut on Sum Over Histories is the EP 'Taula Baser', this four-track sonic journey is a notable addition to his already impressive discography, which includes releases on Innervisions, Kompakt, TAU, and Diynamic.

The EP starts with the heavy club anthem 'Revolta' ('rebellion' in Valencian), born from a memorable night in Munich, a groovy banger fueled by intricate rhythms. A hypnotic vocal motif sets the stage for the listener in Upercent's signature sonic realm.

Next up is ‘Contorsiona’, a mesmerizing journey driven by a pulsating rhythm, accompanied by hefty drums, urgent chimes, and warped vocals. Upercent builds tension towards a massive breakdown, leading to an energetic release and a captivating conclusion.

'Mussol' (owl in Valencian) is the penultimate track, evoking the tranquility of being a night owl. Upercent's unique touch is evident in its engaging simplicity, with mesmerizing percussion and a moody, solemn atmosphere that keeps you enthralled.

'Reminiscencia' concludes the EP with its relentless dynamism, this track unfolds deliberately, constructing an intricate sonic landscape that evokes a power and majesty. The introduction of a repetitive vocal midway intensifies the disquieting ambiance. A pervasive air envelops the audience in darkness as the EP reaches its conclusion.

Upercent makes his debut on Frau Blau with 'Mongolics EP'.

Sonic experimentalist Upercent has made quite a name for himself in the last few years.
Bursting onto the scene over a decade ago, his singular vision and avant-garde style have won him plaudits from across the musical spectrum. Signed to an impressive number of high profile labels including Innervisions, Watergate, Kompakt and more. Upercent continues to delight.

Opening with the rollicking disco of title track 'Mongolics' industrial drums and metallic percussion are the perfect milieu for the sinister male vocals that drive the track, with squelchy keys hooking you in midway.

On the remix duties, Sam Shure takes a leaf out of 2ManyDJs book and dubs us out with his 'Drum Treat' — Finishing the pack off, another original, 'Begine' Tough 808 kicks and scattergun percussion framework some wonky computer sounds and repeating arps.

Goodbye 2017, hello future! Monaberry proudly present their final release of the year with the one and only Upercent. New to the label but no stranger to our record collections, the Valencian artist has made a name for himself over the last few years on labels such as Diynamic, UponYou, Snatch!, Sincopat and Culprit among others with a spell-binding sound that’s consistently rich in emotion and hypnotically heavy in weight… A sound that fits the Halle house label perfectly.

Proof is in the listening; ‘Fastic’ is an eight minute mystical movement that ripples with layers and dynamics. The shimmering percussion, the bluesy guitar twangs, the far-away vocal yearns, the gentle enveloping ebbs and flows with elements of tribal, tech and prog and fat dollops of cosmicity.

‘Badarra’ flips the groove coin with a much denser bass/kick relationship. Palpitating, pumping and progressively developing momentum element by element, key transition points include the molten chimes, the scattering percussion, the strange humanisations and the black hole breakdown that sucks deep deep deep into the silence before catapulting you back into the insistent pumps and added Spanish strums. Weighing in at almost nine minutes, once again it’s an open and shut case of full immersion. And Monaberry wouldn’t have it any other way.

What a way to sign out for another exciting year in music. See you in the future…

PR: The latest microcastle release welcomes the unique and exceptionally talented Upercent to the label for his debut EP. Born in Valencia, this thought provoking, emotive artist has steadily developed a distinctive style that fuses organic and analog sounds with masterful creativity, perfectionism and constant innovation, making him one of the most naturally talented producers to emerge from the Spanish scene. Upercent’s uncanny ability to tell captivating stories through his music has seen him evolve and raise the creative bar with outstanding releases on Kompakt, Diynamic, Monaberry and Endless. Now making his microcastle debut with the three track artist showcase ‘Vuit’, Upercent presents some of the most eclectic productions of his career alongside a remix from Chaim.

The EP begins with its title track and first showcase piece ‘Vuit’. Built on a deep, meditative groove, the piece develops with a unique hypnotic charm. Upercent’s use of distinctive percussive elements, eastern motifs and clever dub styling, creates an instantly memorable introduction to a pure master at work. From its metronomic chiming base, with ‘Tango’ it’s the arrangement of organic designs that makes yet another undeniably original creation. In fact, it’s a supremely delicious smorgasbord of afro elements that masterfully builds towards the unveiling of a heart-melting piano in the final act, revealing the unrivalled steamy aspects of the classic South American dance to perfection.

Take a treated guitar along with a multitude of distinctive elements, add some jaw-droppingly, seductive tones, and breathe everything deeply into a stripped back arrangement laced with analog stabs, while drawing on the experimental attitude of freeform jazz and you have the third offering ‘Submissive’. But, Upercent’s masterstroke here is to collaborate and introduce the sublime vocals of Dwayzo Lawrence aka KnowKontrol, from Syracuse, NY. This multi-genre artist has a complementary, experimental attitude that channels his inimitable ability to inject an already profound track with authentic soul. A precious talent that has already seen him collaborate with some of the electronic world’s finest innovators and labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Drumcode, Rebellion and Keinemusik.

To complete this already creative package, microcastle has enlisted the remix talents of Berlin-based artist Chaim. The renowned musician, DJ, producer and Tel Aviv native has long been one of electronic music's most fascinating artists. Having previously remixed the likes of Art Department, Pete Tong and Ellen Allien, his organic, forward-thinking music has found a home on BPitch Control, Cocoon, Culprit, Disco Halal, Rumors and Turbo. As an artist bound by no genre, but tuned into expressions of liberation and joy, Chaim creates music that is truly universal and is the perfect choice to re-interpret ‘Submissive’. Chaim nails down a backbone of tough, incessant, hypnotic beats, complemented by a seductive blend of evolving, tribal percussion, while reprocessing KnowKontrol’s vocal into a mesmerizing, magical spell, that forms the perfect finale to this stunning four track audio adventure. Upercent’s ‘Vuit EP’ is a showcase that offers a unique insight into the creative, musical mind of an artist whose talent knows no boundaries.

Hailing from one of Europe's historical hot beds for electronic music, Valencia, Upercent makes his well deserved return to KX. Electronic music culture runs deep in his hometown. Barraca, with 50 years of age one of the world's longest running clubs was instrumental in developing what later on became the global phenomenon called Balearic Disco, one of the blueprints for modern clubbing as we know it. Upercent's take on house music is shaped by his unorthodox use of classical instruments and a deep understanding of groove. His new double header for Kompakt's offshoot KX once again proves Upercent's knack for highly infectious hooks and elegant story-telling. Both "Ocell" and "Explota" are fine examples of his tremendous skills in creating state of the art club music with depth and vigor.
