Medical Records in close collaboration with Disko Obscura Records presents a special split 7” showcasing 1 new track each by ((PRESSURES)) and Roladex. ((PRESSURES)) hails from New Orleans, LA. They craft their unique futuristic icy tracks on a museum’s worth of analog synths and drum machines. This release follows their first LP on Disko Obscura entitled “Casting Shadows”. Their contribution “The Voices” is a propulsive and dripping with synth textures track featuring vocoded vocals. Roladex (a veteran of Medical Records already with their “Anthems For the Micro-Age” LP) hails from Seattle by way of Texas. Blending girl/boy vocals with catchy pop hooks drenched in a seductive melancholy, Roladex also uses a plethora of vintage gear. “Glass Statuette” is their new track for this 7” and features their signature sound with a bit of an evolution into Moroder-esque cascading arpeggios. Fans of both artists will surely want this in their collection. We trained text-generating neural networks on the transcript from Christine Blasey Ford’s testimonial letter outlining her experiences of sexual assault by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The neural networks created their own new text, pulling from the patterns and vernacular of the original source material – and we redacted the resulting text into a poem and later manipulated it even more to produce this experimental song. A-Side: Machine Learning Elegy for Christine Margaret Blasey Ford

U+1f440 is a generative music and performance art project started by Angela Washko and Jesse Stiles in 2017. U+1f440 performs live electronic music and visuals using custom code and interactive electronics. Using existing politically charged texts as source material - we train machine learning algorithms on manifestos from a variety of ideological perspectives, testimonies from sexual predators who are serving on the Supreme Court, speeches by feminist heroes, books by controversial dolphin-loving visionaries and more to produce poetic and dream-like computer-generated lyrics.
