HAROLD @ SEASON1 - HALCYON FUTURE

As 2023 approaches, we are asking artists to reflect on the year just gone through a series of mixes built from new music they’ve discovered or enjoyed in 2022. 

For Thessa Torsing, the only way is up – upsammy, that is, her most recognised alias and one under which she shares playful productions that touch on IDM and ambient, and takes to the controls for rousing DJ sets. Torsing traversed the globe this year, hop-skipping between Barcelona and Budapest, or Australia and London, with plenty more shows closer to home, in her native Amsterdam, as she continued to raise her glowing profile.

Her set for our end-of-year series starts on an amorphous and vaguely aqueous note, as squelchy synths and moon-lit atmospherics evoke a sense of submersion into a vast body of water. “This mix is a combination of murky low-end, tickling melodies and free-spirited micropercussions by some of my favourite producers of this year,” Torsing says on the recording, which features tracks by DBR, Andriy Kostyukov, CS + Kreme and more.

Deep into the absurd with Lou Drago.

Drone music without the professional boredom, Lou Drago is a Berlin-based artist whose selections can somehow reflect the deepness of what a great expanse of a ravine in the grand canyon might sound like at sunset - and further into the night.

How they do this is anyone's guess. To experience this first hand was a pleasure and highlight of our October edition, and other reason to check out their ambient, drone and experient series @transience-archive, and follow the sonic-seances created in collaboration with marum, infinity rug.

ALxFW:  Lou Drago (01.10.23)

The mix features voice samples of the 2021 documentary “Little Palestine, Diary of a Siege” by Abdallah Al-Khatib about biggest Palestinian refugee camp – Yarmouk, in Damascus, Syria.

About the anger of having to face so many atrocities and still finding beauty in everyday life. I selected some of my favorite tune for this mix as a soundtrack to feel but also staying resilient.
