Testament to Life was written in tribute to Olegas Truchanas, the Lithuanian born explorer,  conservationist and photographer, who resided in Tasmania.. Truchanas was a passionate advocate of wilderness, and when the government proposed plans to flood Lake Pedder, Truchanas' photographs galvanised the community into action. Whilst this campaign did not succeed in stopping the dam, it provided a solid platform for the campaign to stop the damming of the Frankin and Gordon rivers. This campaign was ultimately a success, although tragically Olegas Truchanas did not live to see the final outcome. On January 6th, 1972, whilst canoeing on the Gordon River, Truchanas slipped on a wet rock and fell into the river. His body was found three days later. His legacy continues to this day, as the Franklin and Gordon Rivers flow unfettered to the sea.

Last Monday was the 4th anniversary of the passing of a dear friend of mine, Krista Bernard.
It was on this day 4 years ago, after 3 days of agonising searching from a community effort of friends and family, that her body was found at the base of Boogarem Falls.

She was an incredibly inspiring being, having ridden a bicycle from the UK across through Europe, the middle East (even got arrested for 3 days in Saudi Arabia just for walking next to 2 male friends), down through Asia into Australia, raising funds for charity... Simply amazing! She was inspiring in many, many ways, as well as a gifted singer who studied at the Lismore music conservatorium.

Recently, at one of my gigs, a lovely lass, Sarah, who danced all the way through my show, came up to me saying that she was an old friend of Krista's also. She later emailed me to say that she had a rare & raw recording she did of Krista singing this traditional Hindi chant in sacred Sanskrit.

When I heard Krista's voice again after so many years I was moved to produce this track to show her gorgeous voice in context of music as she shines her feminine Shakti power. It was truly wonderful to be immersed in my dear friend's voice all day whilst making this track, which brought back many great memories of her life, her laughter and her music.

This is my gift to her wonderful family to commemorate her life.
