Neurocrank Mix: Fibre Optixxx

Split between Naarm and Eora, https://soundcloud.com/jobfit are prolific members of the scene, producing seriously intoxicating mental explorations, the likes of which can be found on Pure Space(most recently on their Longer Form Cat Calls EP - links below), releasing hella mixes and running equally impressive solo projects. 

Their productions exhibit a love for tense, highly organised soundscapes, built for a certain type of unconventional meditation. Their signature spoken-word style, is a lesson in pacing - both in their glitchy, sometimes manic, musical production and their equally gritty spoken-word compositions. 

That said, for all the tension and anxiety, there are equal parts clarity and optimism, with allusions to Australia's natural landscape and the convoluted escapism of our musical scenes. This cruisey sense of adventure carries over into their mixes, such as this one, which demonstrate jobfit's many facets.

Here, they have kindly put together one hour each of chunky, infectious, weird records of all manner of description. Littered with house, playful breakbeat and machine-funk, the nostalgic feel of the mix is perfect for this time of year.

En este mix toca el downtempo influenciado por el ambient, dub techno o deep house destacando artistas que no se han enfocado tanto en la pista de baile y le ha influenciado durante este tiempo como Barker, Aleksi Perala o Legowelt.

TRIP031 - Pharma

I turned 30 the 09/09/22 and was heading to one of the best summer gathering, Sarcus Festival.
I played the day after surrounded by many friends & artists I like. 

I prepared this set for almost 2 months because I wanted it to be like a retrospective of the path I walked in electronic music during the past 13 years. 
I tried to include as much tracks of the different styles I grew up with with the things I discovered at that time that I really felt like playing at a 6-9pm slot.
A couple of months after the festival, the file I was sent was corrupted, with just a little click at the beginning. One of my USB sticks was near the end so the history folder was messy and I tried to remember my set as I played it. Since I prepared almost 75% of it, it was quite easy.

I recorded it nearly 6 months after this moment on a sunny morning, and I'm happy to finally sharing it with the world.

You'll find in here loads of lazers, zaps, wizzes, noises and probably an unreasonable use of DJM's dub echo.

Big shout out to the Sarcus Team and to all people who made this journey go the way it went.

This week's Rhythmic Culture podcast sees another mix coming in out of the creative pool that's called Brussels. Kafim is in it for the love of the game. A medium of unpretentious music, his hopeful and thoughtful mixes of zany basslines, moody post-punk riffs and idiosyncratic lyricism exhibit level-headed maturity and assertiveness. This son of Brussels moves seamlessly from sturdy synths to shamanic undulations in his club mixes.

Soundtrack for Phantom Manors

bit of a conceptual one incoming, connecting dots of passion (note: obessesions), and following a linear of sound throughout a life so far. like loose threads of a sweater stitched in my mind from sonic moments, being gently pulled to unravel that part of why i love spooky sounds and shit like that is from growing up and going to theme parks. i’ve always been summoned first and foremost to the the simulation of being haunted in them, with the baddest rides always featuring ghouls and howls of lament, and the best coasters always being monsters to be taken by. 

my family theme park Alton Towers was particularly hooked on horror based attractions in the 90s and early 00’s, ranging from unearthed aliens discovered underground tamed by the twisted steel of the coaster, fragments of voices echoing from the woods and the undead spirits lost in them, paganistic rituals of death, or machines created by dystopian regimes to reduce you to nothing (shouts out oblivion which features in the outro, perhaps the first drum n bass tune i ever heard!).

this mix is largely composed of scores written for these attractions, and also from field recordings i took myself largely from a recent trip to Disneyland Paris (shouts out to my sisters 30th bday and the salt family). the amount of hidden corners such as stalagmite caves eroded from time to forgotten manors kept deathly alive by its remaining and never to leave residents with their own soundtracks is next level. take this as a collage of these haunted moments in sound (given a suitable lvl of fx fuckery throughout). preferably listened to at night. 

also, given an extended suite at the start and woven throughout is the soundtrack and field recordings from Phantom Manor, a masterpiece in its own right, a true storyteller beyond the visual sights, and a VIP of music within my life.
