If debuts are anything to go by, the return Across Boundaries on Up The Stuss is a guaranteed treat. A collaborative project born out of mutual passion and understanding between two close friends, Chris Stussy and Locklead’s joint guise has taken the house landscape by storm, and the pair are only one release into their exciting journey. Merging signature sonics with future-focused ideas, the project takes cues from its name and sees the pair bridge genres and influences to deliver a raw and impactful take on house music - something on show here with their sophomore offering, ‘Synergy’.

Created to showcase a deeper side to their diverse sound palettes and a project for the duo to express themselves differently to their own solo sets and productions, the latest five-track EP contains a kaleidoscope of sounds and textures to soundtrack moments from sunrise to sunset and beyond.

Based in the North-East, the blossoming DJ/producer is an individual who has quickly found his sound, and to great effect with regular support from a long list of selectors and tastemakers from across the scene - most notably, Chris Stussy. Having featured as a selection of unreleased go-to cuts in his sets over the past year and after inviting him to join as a guest on his sold-out UK tour, Stussy now welcomes the exciting Brit to Up The Stuss for his three-track 'Closer' EP. Ben Rau inaugurates PIVs new PIV Club sub-label this October with his new EP Back To The Underground / Energy. Over the past decade, Berlin-based producer and DJ, Ben Rau, has risen up the ranks to become one of the undergrounds most prized artists, steadily unveiling hard-hitting dance floor cuts for the likes of beloved imprints such as Kaoz Theory, Eastenderz, Fuse, and of course, his very own Inkal and Meta labels. Here though, he joins forces with the powerhouse Amsterdam part and record label PIV, to launch its new sub-label, entitled PIV Club, and as the name would suggest delivering club-ready hits carefully crafted for those magic moments.

Up first on the package is the Back To The Underground, featuring legendary Mr. V on the vocals. This raw slice of classic House music employs many tropes that lie at the roots of the genre, from crunchy swinging drum breaks and an amalgamation of intricately intertwined piano lines, acid licks, and stab sequences, all underpinned by a spoken word vocal that ebbs and flows throughout the groove. Energy follows, an apt title for the nearly six-minute excursion which fuses ethereal textures, twinkling synth melodies, and a vocoder vocal uttering the tracks title, while squelchy acid bass and tension-building strings further fuel the dynamic groove alongside a robust drum workout.

It’s About Us’ is a track I made which is dedicated to the launch of my new event concept: USS. The lyrics that you hear in the track represent what I’m aiming for with the concept of the event. I’d really to make sure that the collective of people attending our events will be the main focus and centre of everything, not necessarily the artist who is performing at that moment. The decisions we will make for our event - from stage design to lighting and other details - are all made with the idea of making sure the experience is more important than one single individual. This is how the event took shape, and this is also the core inspiration I had for this track. In my mind I could play this at the very start of my sets, in particular at The Roundhouse on Feb 1st. It’s soulful, and it has a message with a meaning for me to kick off this new chapter in my career. I can’t wait to play it there.
