If Nicola Noir’s soundscape were a landscape, it wouldn’t be the mountains of his native Switzerland. It would be a milky way of colours and spinning planets, with shooting stars whizzing by and the occasional Urban Cosmonaut Spaceship hovering on the horizon, listening intently for the next surprise in their ears.
Off and up we go, left and right and topsy turvy into the the 16th episode of our podcast series. Nicola’s productions are gateways into spheres of twinkling melodies, timeless wormholes and shining percussions. His sound could be described as a jittering wave of melancholia, wrapped in eclectic rhythms of longing and stardust.
From where we can see here in our spaceship, the view looks pretty damn beautiful. We look forward to the ride **

When the past fuses with the present, you’ll find us immersed in Barrio Lindo, flipping through his musical sketchbook of colourful landscapes from South America. 

Influenced by traditional music from Bolivia, Peru and Colombia, our Urban Cosmonaut Radio guide #25 creates music that somehow reminds the listener of the roots of contemporary music while still breaking the boundaries of genre, time and locality. His music is eclectic in the sense that it doesn’t fit any boxes, and at the same time instantly recognizable through his signature knocking percussions, colourful soundscapes and rhythmically erratic heartbeat phrases. 

Barrio Lindo’s taste in music was born in Colombia, in the sound of the rivers and the chants of marimbas and drums. When he’s not making music, he’s making instruments - and playing around with old techniques, mixing them with digital production, finding a balance between traditional and contemporary ways of expressing himself. After doing a Chancha Via Circuito workshop with Sidirum and Barda, he started producing music in 2012 and has evolved a lot since then. 

We’re grateful for the podcast we’re about to listen to, which includes fresh material from his collaborative project History of Colour with El Buho. Which wonders await us, we wonder. Let’s have a listen and find out, shall we?

For those amongst you cosmonauts who are drawn to melancholy, enchanted by spherical sounds and driven by all things deep; we’ve got something special in store for you. This next podcast is a voyage through the mind and soul of a young artist who has tickled our ears ever since his first forays into music production. Consisting exclusively of his own tracks, Arutani has given us a podcast that showcases his distinct sound: minimal, dark, organic and slow. With his creative percussions, soulful melodies and deep atmospheres, he has created music that is inspired by his roots but also goes beyond any existing genre. His productions are unmistakeable in vibe and moving in emotion, gently urging us to reflect on ourselves in the process.

Somewhere, way up there in a galaxy far, far away, there was a boy floating around in space.
This boy’s head was filled with sounds so trippy, so unique and so melancholic - that when an idea came, it was unlike anything you’d ever heard before. The boy’s ears were filled with endless amounts of recycled stardust - so that whenever he put on his headphones to make music, everything he created sounded like heaven. And the boy’s mind was constantly buzzing with impulses - so that whenever he expressed himself, they came pouring out of him in the form of sublime music. To us, he is known as Ninze.
Ninze is multi-faceted, yet utterly recognisable in his style. Having first taken the music scene by storm with unique productions and famously slo-ow DJ sets alongside his 2nd half Okaxy, he has since evolved as a solo artist as well as a member of the production- and live performance trio Wide Awake. 
No matter what he does, you can always hear it: that distinct sound that makes your knees feel like jelly and your thoughts like cloudy shadows. It’s a vibe that transports you to a place in your mind, something in between diving into trippy underwater melancholia and shooting up into deep cosmic space.
It’s only fitting then that our next podcast is a live set recorded specially for the Urban Cosmic Universe. If you listen closely, you’ll notice the little shooting stars, pulling you deeper and deeper into a world you can lose yourself in with ease. 
So finally, to quote the man himself: “roll it up, light it up, press play”*

Perfectly in tune with the summer season upon us, Islandman presents a refreshing sound from the shores of the Black Sea with this splendid sunny mix. Originally from Turkey, this brilliant producer started out at a young age and made his way in music by playing a traditional long-necked lute known as a saz. It’s thanks to this early relationship with music that Islandman developed the technique and feeling needed to handle farfetched rhythms, sounds and chants inspired by the flowering cultures of the Mediterranean Basin and beyond to blend them with mastery in his tracks and mixes. This eclecticism and understanding of music has helped him put together a wide range of melodies and musical styles which extend from enchanting edits of traditional Bulgarian sounds to smooth balearic disco. His mix is exciting and mesmerising, catching the mind in a gentle twine of melodies and rhythms. His perfect balance of percussions and electronic beats shakes and ripples throughout the track, and lifts you with ecstatic vibes. The mix goes on in a beautifully arranged journey set by the pace of your own inner dance, as if the concept of time ceases to exist and it’s just you and the music.
