About this journey:
In the past 1.5 years, time passes differently than before. Slower and faster at the same time. No one was really prepared for this form of a global pandemic, a global crisis. It’s a long and tough wait, sometimes hoping and fearing. Existences are threatened directly or indirectly. For me, it also shows how little capacity the global North has in dealing with existential crises. Norms and moral boundaries are shifting, revealing all their ambiguity and hypocrisy. Many people in the global South are still waiting for vaccines, and here millions are not getting vaccinated out of irrational fears and assumptions. Terms like dictatorship are grossly distorted. Freedom is demanded, but it means selfishness, lack of empathy, bossiness and malice. There’s a loud and aggressive, hyperpivileged minority that screams the loudest. But people die in silence. A simple and frightening logic.  It is a matter of time. It is about patience. It's about courage. About renunciation. About each and every one. What exactly music and art can achieve in this disturbing time, we all define.

Don Mescal, who djs for more than 20 years now, can be seen as magician of musical diversity, a character full of energy & love, who has a huge repertoire of songs that will catch your senses and awakens your emotions. His unique musical voyage combines a well-selected myriad of styles from Folktronica, Rub-a-Dub, Jungle & Tribal with a joyfully flamboyant vibe.

Furthermore Don Mescal is the co-founder of Cosmovision Records, a new music label and collective created by a mix of immigrants from Latin America, Europe and locals from Canada, based in Montréal, working together in a collaborative and inter-dependent way through a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary artistic platform, believing in the value of different cultures, art and the universe itself.

Some say music is a matter of the heart. Others say it’s mathematics. But our next Urban Cosmonaut Radio artist thinks about music in his own way: he imagines the architecture in which he creates soundscapes, and then conjures up a narrative for melodies and rhythms. 
Kurup’s music is unexpected. It catches you off guard, constantly fusing themes in unusual musical trips on the dance floor. His sound journeys are colourful, full of character, different elements and little surprises. They are possibly somewhat a mirror of himself: a multi-platform digital artist, collector of stories and lover of carneval hailing from Brazil. Kurup’s roots lie in Cerrado, one of the most lush tropical savannas in the world and home to thousands of colourful species, bizarre tree formations and what he calls mosaic habitats. Perhaps this is where he draws inspiration for his producing, an endeavour he started 2 years ago after DJing for years on CDJs before moving on to vinyl, until finally crossing the digital frontier with his live sets. Influenced by the tropicalia movement in Brazil that has brought life to a new way of experimenting with local as well as global music, what you’re about to hear in this next Urban Cosmonaut Radio podcast is something we at UCR are constantly searching for: something fresh, unique, and with a beautiful story. We advise you to do as he does, and try to preserve that special ability we have as children: to listen and transform anything we hear with our imagination.

After discovering the world of electronic music in 2000, today’s featured artist Muno has since experimented with classical, minimal house, and dance, before finding his definitive ‘intercultural dark’ sound. Formerly performing under the alias Gurtz during his electronic dance phase, Muno also performs as part of the trio Kermesse. In recent years, while travelling Europe, a new musical dimension opened for Muno so that he decided he wanted his music to bring fresh vibes for both his listeners and himself. “I returned home from a two month trip in Europe, I had heard a lot of artists playing very similar music. I understood that I needed something different after this trip” he said, “a new challenge”. So for today’s podcast he offers us a blend of his remastered tracks, as well as a few unreleased ones. The result is a calm and relaxing but also very playful mix which evokes feelings of cool waters dripping out through the speakers, with each new beat a colourful drop tapping on the water’s surface. Muno hopes this mix will remind his listeners to take a moment to slow down, to live simply, and to have patience. It is a call to reconsider what is truly necessary in our modern times, to think about what you want from this life, and to live in the moment, to enjoy the music and forget about everything else. Siguiente destino: Byron Bay 🇦🇺

Here's Oceania's second encounter with the series, made by producer Moontide, who in this mix included a few of the new tracks he's written and a couple he did for a film score. 

As a clear intention for the mix, he chose the theme of global healing. It's a storyline narrated from the view point of mother Earth looking back on her planet engulfed in flames, there are spoken word pieces by 4 different women (Jeanne Lee, Severin Cullis, Greta Thunberg & Ayme Doran) throughout to narrate the storyline. He recorded it in his studio whilst almost the whole state he lives in is on fire, triggering a lot of protests to do with climate change. So this is an artistic contribution to support the message.
