Here's a track for my imaginary/fake world music album... Afro-Pop/Calypso influenced track created in Ableton Live. in 5/4 and Grooves! but is in 5/4. Influenced a bit by Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, and Paul Simon besides the Hi-life, South African, and Calypso artists like King Sunny Ade, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and Boogsie Sharp.

Hilltop Celebration

Track I made as a demonstration for my classes. I used only my IPad into a Line 6 Sonic Port, into JamUp Pro, and into Garageband for the sounds. I decided to mix and release so I mixed in Logic X using built in plugins, some UAD stuff, and Fabfilter Saturn. The track is an ambient rock track with mellow verses and heavy rock choruses. 6-string bass tuned E-A-D-G-B-E, plays all of the melodies, chords, and the bass line.

Stranger Things Are Afoot

Slow grooving track incorporating rock, jazz, electronic, and rap elements. Includes ambient elements and a Dr. Who-like bridge. Piece started of as me trying to copy NIN... and then morphed with nods to other musical heroes. In the end, it sounds nothing like how I envisioned and the overall vibe sounds a bit like some of Jeff Becks last few electronic based recordings (Not the guitar playing though! Theres a ways to go....)

Simple diatonic song reminiscent of the video games of the 80's and 90's. Consists of simple set of chip tune voices: drums, bass, arpeggiated chords, melody, plus some 80's style video game sound effects.

8-Bit Fantasy

Dark and melancholy track produced as an homage to Jaco and Bill Laswell, Solo fretless bass, bass harmonics loop, w/ percussion and synth drone.

Epic track featuring fretless bass, electric guitar, japanese min-yo vocals, strings, mellotron choir, and more.

Fallen Kings

Ambient track created in Ableton with euclidean rhythms and Reaktor Prism synth.

Circular Thoughts

Ambient track with radio, percussion, horns, computer sounds, water, and noise elements popping out of the texture. Dense, repetitive, but always shifting.

1922 animation of Felix the Cat: Felix Lends A Hand. Music and sound by Daren Burns. Music  and sound is a bit like the Pink Panther or Tom & Jerry. 

Created in Logic Pro with Native Instruments Kontakt and EXS instruments.  Uses a jazz type score and has been "vintage-ized"  with Fabfilter Pro Q2 and Saturn, plus  a Fairchild 660 compressor, to be reminiscent of of the time period and to blend with the film better.

Nosferatu Clip 1

Slow, repetitive music with apocalyptic tinges. Features fretless bass on repeating melody w/ various guitar counter melodies along the way.  Bridge is a Pink Floyd inspired drop and track ends with a short bass solo outro.

Damaged

Jazz rock fusion with some dubstep and  80's techno textures. This piece evokes the imagery of a group of people being chased by aliens that are going to eat them once they're caught. Some didn't make it... maybe they all didn't make it...

30 Second Piece

The title of this CD is a quote from the Burmese political prisoner Aung San Suu Kyi (who was recently released again; for how long, we'll have to see) and the music is my comment on the US post 9/11. As We have been running scared for now over eleven years, and seem willing to give up our most important and basic freedoms based only on fear, I say that maybe it's time we looked at some of the true heroes of the world, some of them peaceful others violent; who stood up, with 100% of their total energy and focus for what they believed in while paying greatly with their own personal costs. Blindly and foolishly giving up constitutional rights for the illusion of safety is not the answer. 

This recording is dedicated to Goyathlay (Geronimo) the great Apache leader, Gandhi the Indian revolutionary, Aung San Suu Kyi the Burmese political prisoner, Fela Kuti the Nigerian fighter of governmental corruption, and anyone else who believes that life based on fear is not an option. 

Music Is the Weapon.
