Igor Urruchi Salas was born in Miranda de Ebro, Burgos, Spain in 1988 . He started learning to play the violin at the age of four with María Madru Mesalitz, who played first violin for the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra. At the age of eight he began to play the clarinet with the maestro Florian Popa, soloist from the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra. He started his lessons with the maestro Guy Deplus, clarinet soloist from the Paris Opera and professor at the conservatoire supérieur in said city.

He began his Intermediate level studies in the Haro Conservatory and continued to pursue them at the Jesús Guridi Conservatory in Vitoria. In 2007 he began his studies at the Madrid Royal Conservatory, receiving clarinet lessons from Professor Justo Sanz. He finished the Master degree of bass clarinet in “Codarts” (Rotterdam) with Maestro Henri Bok getting the highest grades.

In 2000 he participated in the Fermín Gurbindo national wind instruments competition in Logroño for the first time, receiving an honourable mention for his interpretation. Similarly, in 2012 he was awarded first prize in the first International Bass Clarinet Julián Mendendez competition. 

From 2006 to 2007 he was an active member of EGO (The Euskadi Youth Orchestra), playing concerts in the Teatro Principal in Vitoria and the Auditorio Kursaal in San Sebastián as well as in the aforementioned Palacio Euskalduna. Igor has also played in the National Auditorium of Madrid and the Doelen in Rotterdam and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In 2010 he was admitted into JONDE (The Spanish National Youth Orchestra) and is currently a member of the Rotterdam Academy Philharmonic Orchestra. Moreover in the season 2012/13 was selected as an active member of the NJO (Netherlands Young Orchestra).
