NOTE: Saint Ferdinand was the King of Castile and Leon. Later, kingdoms were united to get what we know as Spain. 

If someone wants to rewrite the refrain, "Saint Ferdinand Most Glorious King of Castile and León," it may not fly, so we opt for a bit of poetic license on this rather important detail.

Although one might have an argument on their hands if one were to be square, and tell a good Spaniard that Saint Ferdinand is not "technically" a Spanish Saint but a saint only of Castile and León. Would it not be rather silly?

HEART FULL OF COURAGE - The First Crusade -

Blessed Urban called the Crusade,
For the land of Christians are pillaged and razed,
For Saracens made it a goal to subdue,
The Cross of Christ, most glorious and true!

And behold there was found a man,
A Godfrey Boullion who would retake the Land,
Where Christ the Lord was bound by His hands,
and a traitor would hang himself over the sands.

For now O good Christian, for this you were born!
Take heart full of courage and brave every storm,
so to safeguard the land; where the God-man did dwell,
Who by death on the Cross broke the kingdom of Hell.

The crusading armies passed over the land,
Through tempests and clashes, through canyons so grand.
Such numerous dangers of battles to death,
for Heavens' gained, heeding the Vicar's request!

As thunder the drums of the armies resound,
as banners of nobles fly high from the ground,
the rumble of horsemen in numerous file,
the glint of their armor be seen for a mile!

Thus Castle by castle be conquered in time,
till lastly was seen O Jerusalem's shine!
Alas then Duke Godfrey gave order to siege,
The greatest of hardship to accomplish indeed!

the sacral Constable,
Lord Nuno, found to always dwell in Mary's Gaze,
Thy prayer doth reach the brightest star, 
The Queen of Heaven, from afar.
For it is She that always leads thy trialled way! 

2. Holy defender!
All foes shall render,  
all that is due when armies charge at thy command!
Of Portugal, do all the warriors sing, 
so blessed by Christ the King,  
Who showed His strength when...
He delivered by thy hand!

3. Great Knight of purity, 
Model of chivalry,
Thou dost hold fast the captured standard of the foe!
The Sacramental Lord , thy might
Thy Golden Counselor thy light,
and strength while other men would surely flee in fright!

4. Thou art a fearless man 
of sharpest prowess grand, 
if thou surrounded by the foe, 
thy heart is calm, 
true noble strong,
No compromises made, 
The scandalizers learned when thou up-braided...
in full display when tables turned!

With sword unsheathed, 
Thy face aglow in fullest charge.
The man to stop Castilian might,
Whose words did rally men to fight,
who before battles did confess their sins aright!

6. O Sacral Warrior brave
The Holy Virgin's slave!
Thou doth inspireth all souls to virtue high,
In prayer thou waits, 
For God, thou wages war! 
Thy legend strikes the core of every soul that,
that seeketh truth forevermore.

7. Behold the battle cry! 
As spears and arrows fly,
The armies clash, the sound is heard in Heaven, High!
The wind blows dust to fill the realm,
Thy sword dost strike with fearsome sound,
until thou dissapeared when struck unto the ground.

8. Thy captains searched for thee, 
in vain most urgently, 
But in the midst of blinding dust thou was not found. 
"Oh Constable! Where has the valiant gone? 
Tis thee that keeps us one,
To face a danger,
as great as this grand army strong!"

In prayer upon the knee,  
With eyes ablaze and arms araised in cruciform! 
"Lord Nuno! Rise and take the lead,
Do thou command! Our urgent plea."
"My son, for this I pray to God that I might see!"

upon that highest slope,
With thy most valiant take their standard and their hope!
This day we shall not perish by the foe!
Who was upon the thresh-hold of taking,
Our Lady's chosen Portugal!"

renouned and glorious, 
Thou founded peace 
for thou wert ready for the war,
Yet thy age advanced in years,
Calming so much, Castilian fears,
which lied in wait for all thy praise to turn to tears!

12. In Eliatic brown, 
In Carmel's Habit found
Yet in thy vows 
there were conditions to be drawn,
For if Castile, shall rise to wage a war, 
Thou shall anew, take sword and lead thy men to...
 to crush the foe more than before!

13. Castilian heralds came 
Inquiring of thy name
Thou claimed most readily to lead the armies might.
And for the proof for kings to know,
And that all doubt may cease to grow,
Thou pulled aside thy habit, showing armor bright!

14. And to the great chagrin, 
Of whom Castile had sent, 
Thou took a spear from thine own weapons on the wall,
And with thy strength surprised them all thou did affirm thy godly call when thou did hurl the spear into a distant wall!

15. And thus did end the scene,
The Castilian inquiry,
Which now resigned to leave in peace thy Portugal, 
O man of peace, thy soul was made to soar,
Thy glory is assured! Oh holy Constable, 
Truly thou art the Man of War!
