She Has Powers

Anecdotal. How a relationship can feel vastly different once you've experienced some bumps along the road, which can be hard to fully recover from.
This is far from the first song I've written. It is, however, the first song which I think sounds almost finished, without needing to add a bunch of instruments.
This is labelled as a draft because I am open to making changes based on any feedback I get. I am self-taught and mainly struggle with mixing and having the music sound professional (I currently use GarageBand).

I wrote this song in 2007.  I performed this song on live television in 2008.  Mark Roberts recorded a version of it on his album titled "Zero to Sixty".

📖 About the song:
I was listening to the new Field Report album “Brake Light, Red Tide” a lot around the time I wrote this. I remember it came considerably fast compared to some of the other songs on the album. I was sitting on my back patio as my wife was making planter boxes with my 2 and 5 year old running around the yard “helping.” I kept hearing Christopher Porterfield's voice in the melody. As it turns out my buddy in Nashville, Philippe Bronchtein (who played organ and pedal steel on the album) knows Chris and connected us. What I thought was a crazy dream to have him singing on this song ended up reality which still blows my mind. I haven't really found a non-melodramatic way to describe this song yet. It wasn't a sit down and plan to write a song type of day – it just sort of happened. I actually was messing around with that opening instrumental because of a new chord my wife taught me. She was learning a song from the Frozen 2 soundtrack. It's like an Am11 or something. Something I've never played before and only happens once in the song because I couldn't get my fingers back in that position. I think what the song is about is how we all live with a certain disconnect as well as dependence to our surroundings and the people in our lives. When you start thinking about the contrast of our biographical timeline and the historical timeline in which we live it's like falling into a black hole and it's hard to not feel like an ant when you finally crawl back out. We are everything and nothing. I don't know how else to say it. My reason to wake up in the morning or why I write or the things in my life that define me is everything. But the overall impact I'm making historically is insignificant and I guess that's where all the conflict and tension in the lyric are stemming from. “I am the dog lost from home/and I am the boy searching.”

Last Year's Man - Wild, Wild Heart (with lyrics)

I had my first artist cut in 2012, on my song “Lucky One”, which was recorded by independent artist Mark Roberts on his album "Zero to Sixty".  My live performances have received praise from music industry professionals such as Kenny Edwards of the Stone Poneys, and conductor and music critic Daniel Kepl.  I played six original songs live on television in 2008, a performance which received favorable reviews, with one music critic calling me one of the better performers he’d recently heard.

In 2023, I began writing songs with Ira Denis, and we formed the music collaboration "Lights of Egan".  About our music, listeners have said: “ethereal”, “Donovan meets Cat Stevens”, “like a mix of some prog rock bands from the 70s, such as Caravan; and some indy bands like Field Report”, “has a nice, easy feeling; 70s throwback sound in a good way”. Listeners have also compared our music favorably with the band Bread.

We are releasing our first single, titled "Crystal Kinda Girl", on January 10th, 2025. CKG will feature the talented English singer/songwriter Daniel Sitch, a.k.a. Cregalodon, who has recently released the singles "Tainted" and "Bluebird". CKG was produced by the acclaimed producer, multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter Nir Tsfaty, who also played all the instruments on the song. Among other things, Nir is known for his emotionally powerful and stirring "About Whales" music project, which saw him team up with the Invictus Quartet.
