The crystal shone brightly under the spotlight of the glass chamber. It sad proudly at the end of the long hall, the museums prized piece. For decades they had waited to display such a delicate stone, one of such power, importance and might. Kings and queens throughout the ages had sought its presence amidst their collection of jewels but none had triumphed over its great defender, its ruler. It was bound to only one, and now in the place where he was born it sat perched in his corridor. The museum was open, the crystal was alive. 
Here is the latest release from the Honey Soundsystem camp in full. It features remixes from Mike Servito and Gunnar Haslam.

SAN FRANCISCO’S VINYL DREAMS RECORDS DEBUTS WITH ROCHE

VDR is a new label from Michelangelo Battaglia aka Mike Bee, the man behind San Francisco’s epicenter of dance music culture, Vinyl Dreams record store. After five years going solo in the record retail biz, VDSF is finally branching out to produce their own in-house imprint: Vinyl Dreams Records! 

A bit about VDSF: 
Vinyl Dreams began as a partnership in 2011 between former Tweekin’ Records boss Darren Davis, and Michelangelo Battaglia, at the time a 14-year employee, manager of the dance/electronic section and section buyer at SF’s Amoeba Music. After helping set up shop online Mike went solo. Five years later, Vinyl Dreams is the HQ of the local dance music scene as well as a thriving part of the West Coast culture.

For our debut release we’re proud to present a 12” from local producer Ben Winans aka ROCHE (row-shay), whose previous releases for esteemed imprints like 100% Silk, Mathematics, Hobo Camp, Jacktone and ICEE HOT have set the stage for Ben to level up with an ambient LP on new SF label Perfect Location Records and more of his psychedelic, hardware based live performances in the future! 

Past live performances were the crucible for the two original tracks on this release, both being edited versions of longer live jams performed live at stalwart SF Wednesday weekly Housepitality and Legendary Bay Area 51 party Hostile Ambient Takeover. 

On “Solicitude” slightly broken beats punch through your speakers as a rising, jagged melody iterates itself into your brain - we call it Maximal Techno! 

Ben says “When We Danced Again” is in reference to “the first time I felt I was able to dance and smile again after losing loved ones in the Ghost Ship Fire. The track was from a live performance at Hostile Ambient Takeover, a remnant of the legendary Bay Area 51 performance space that was extremely influential in the development of our current Bay Area DIY club culture.” The track exudes emotion, drenched in anticipation, it feels as though it is meant to lift the weight off of your shoulders as it celebrates just that, a positive feedback loop that keeps rising and rising. 

For the remix we’ve called on well-known local DJ and producer Lily Ackerman of the Diacritic Collective and recent resident with As You Like It. Lily has been making quite a name for herself, taking her brand of deep house and deeper techno to local audiences for a few years now. She is well respected in the Bay Area dance music community and has been gaining momentum with each step forward! 

Lily’s remix of “Solicitude” tightens things up with the skill of a seasoned DJ/producer, and aims directly at the dancefloor, conjuring up visions of late nights lost in Berlin and early mornings between fog and fog machines deep in the Northern California wilderness. A great compliment to the original and a perfect way to round out our first release.

This year's Nachtdigital record follows the path we started to explore in 2017: To combine artists who are close to us, each given the specific task to tell a story in up to 24 minutes (which is pretty much the maximum you can press on one side of a vinyl record) - with complete artistic freedom. And we are more than happy with the contributions we received:

KANN went for a decidedly collaborative effort, gathering bits and pieces from the label's core artists and glueing them together for one big, cohesive narrative. The result is somewhat experimental but also typically KANN in its sound and character: Intimate and homely but also dancy and energetic.

Johanna Knutsson turned in a long Ambient piece that feels like talking a walk with her through summery fields and meadows. It's Johanna's first proper Ambient release and quite the perfect fit since she will also give her live debut on Nachtdigital's much-loved Ambient stage this year.

Vai follows on side C: He is a longstanding member of the Nachtdigital crew and has been writing and producing the music for our traditional opening performance for many years. One of the most versatile and yet-to-be-discovered producers in our sphere, this elaborative piece hopefully also is just a teaser of what's to come in the future.

Side D belongs to the most odd contribution we got: Poet Manuel Stallbaumer and music "professor" Stefan Schmidt-Dichte (also known as Perm) brought their individual talents to the table and created a remarkable piece of listening pleasure - a weird, baffling fusion of poetry and sound that is definitely worth diving into.

The record comes in form of a double vinyl LP with fancy gatefold cover and artwork by bus.group. As always, the release will first be available at the festival and in a handful of carefully selected record stores thereafter - as well as at the Nachtdigital webshop.
The total playtime of the record is almost 90 minutes so it really is the perfect companion for a nice walk through the park, cooking with friends or taking an evening off on the couch.

Julian G's first offering to wax is this beautifully reflective track that sits somewhere in the middle of House and Techno, we're going to go with Frosty House on this one! And what a perfect time of year for it! Cosmic Pint Glass has been sitting on this one for awhile now, but it seemed a good winter warmer for as the colder weather kicks in.

Julian started out distributing vinyl for various House labels in the mid 1990’s and the House sickness is still with him, he's runs the Classic 80's / 90's House and Techno group and from listening to so much you can imagine his collection is strong! Even though he's escaped to the fine city of Norwich, he can still be found busting out the occasional parties in his home turf in South London.

The sound of rain is always different: if you find yourself in the forest, the rain envelops you with its muted but consistent rush.  If you are out in the desert or in an open field, you can hear it approaching for hours, like a reverb effect that's getting dryer and dryer. If you are in the city, you hear its complex rhythmic banging on the windows or the roof or the puddle on a street.  If you combine all of those together, you'll have a pretty good idea how Strategy's Tropical Storm sounds.  Each element in the track seems to represent some kind of rain: there is the urban rhythm, there's the desert-y synth that comes at you from a distance, and there is the muted bassline straight from the forest floor. And just like rain itself, the track twists and turns from more relaxed and gentle to more forceful and pounding, ultimately dissipating and leaving the listener with that fresh post summer rain feeling.

Dial records is excited to announce Dial76 - four remixes for Lawrence‘s recent album "Illusion" with contributions by Shinedoe, Tracey, Trux and Carsten Jost. Amsterdam based Shinedoe, who’s productions have been widely admired and played by Dial DJs from Lawrence to Efdemin since her earliest releases, provides a warmly enchanting Techno version of "Crystal". Also from Amsterdam and newest addition to the Dial Records stable is Tracey who’s debut record "Biostar" was released on Dial earlier this year. His uptempo electro construct integrates the sounds of the original effortlessly into his own narrative. Mysterious producer Trux impressed with his concept album "Orbiter" on Avenue 66 last year and delivers an exciting ambient track with reminiscences of a shadowy beat. Lastly the traditional contribution of a remix by Dial Records co-founder Carsten Jost rounds up the lineup with a warm Rhodes driven House version of "Transitions".
