Inspiration: Carmen Frida Magdalena – This piece reflects Frida Kahlo’s internal struggle with self-perception, struggling with deformities and pain. Although she saw herself through the prism of a monkey, others saw her extraordinary beauty and creativity. The question of whether we look at her “without disgust” refers to her desire to be seen through the prism of her talent, not her physical limitations. The lyrics speak of how Frida, despite her difficult life, was able to find joy in her art, transforming pain into works full of symbols. She became an icon whose work gained worldwide recognition, despite her origins at the time from a small city district.

This song is meant to represent the loneliness you feel when you are separated from everything you want, and material things have no meaning compared to what your heart feels. I wrote this song in 1997 while I was in a hotel in Madrid for 3 months, far from everything I loved. This is the first version I've recorded with Esther and Sonia...I hope you like it.

MURDER ONE

Terry had this one mostly written and when I first heard it, he had already added some really nice ambient guitar to it, so i went with some sound fx and developed some over the top ideas around his, as well as the acoustic picking.   During the process we both discovered we had a great admiration for the art and movies of David Lynch, so Terry had the idea to put it together with some elements that give a nod to him and his movies , given that David passed not long ago.

Tom's piano melodies are so inspirational, not just to me (Mark) but also to Jussi, Georg and Boon. The energy of this piece carried us all off on a wonderful journey.
