Starlight Thursdays - A weekly mix release hosted by Starlight Reunion and created by local Montana DJs. This playlist is a great example of the sound of the Montana underground and shows just how diverse it is.
We started this project as a way to stay in touch with our scene during the covid19 pandemic and it has grown into what may be the largest collection of local Montana DJ mix recordings. We're proud to say it now includes several all original sets by DJ/Producers, Live sets from local parties, festivals and club nights as well as recordings of live electronic music created with beat machines, synthesizers and step sequencers.

OMG you guys. I just got a Denon Prime 4 ☆TODAY ☆ so obviously I had to set it up immediately and try it out. I've wanted (for a long time) to utilize 3 decks when mixing, and now I can!!! This is my first try using 3 decks. just messed around for 3 hours. the mixing is not perfect since I'm not used to beatmatching three songs but I'M SO EXCITED to practice this approach more! yay.

Starlight Thursdays Episode 200!!we have a very special recoding to share for this milestone. Our resident artist MumbleBee recently released their first ep. We featured them in an album release party and hit record as they preformed their first “all original set” composed from tracks on their ep as well as unreleased music they recently produced. It’s been amazing having MumbleBee join our art collective and we couldn’t be more proud to showcase their talent and art. They have been behind the Dj decks since 2020 and have performed in a multitude of settings, from Missoula pride to Anaconda Pride, Mountain tops and Bars, Rock quarries, Forests down to
Basements like The Senvion where this was recorded. Originally from Kalamazoo Michigan they fell in love with Burner culture and electronic music. After moving to Missoula we quickly adopted them into our art collective, community and family. 
Let’s take a closer look into the deep complexities that are MumbleBee.

How long have you been Producing:
	- in a DAW? Maybe a year and a half. In general? My entire life ;3

Why did you get into it?
I enjoy the manipulation of sounds, and the tactile response feeling of a mixing board. Being the center of attention every now and again is nice too. :p
[Producing] I went into this EP curious about sound - what it is, how it works, what do all the little acronyms mean? - I finished this EP with more questions than answers - and a curiosity that has evolved since into fascination.

What inspires you?
It can be anything -- a color, an emotion, places I visit, people, my friends, etc.
Machines, socialist machines, machine/human cooperation

Please tell us a little bit about this recording? 
This is my EP, Kindergarten, a few months post release, and other works I have completed or partially completed since then.
All of the songs within are made from my hands, filled with the love and encouragement from my family and friends.

Starlight Thursdays Episode Episode 207 featuring  MumbleBee TSB2DJsWaLB2BI Pandaura (that's a new slang that/acronym which means transitioning smoothly between 2 djs with a little b2b inbetween) Commonly shortened  to "-->"
last year MumbleBee and Pandaura played a lot together, including two new years ago, so I couldn't imagine a better way to end the year and to kick off what was ultimately an amazing party.

Going b2b with you feels so natural, Pandaura. “Yes I agree MumbleBee!”
“Now that I think about, we played b2b at least a little bit, and sometimes for like 6 hours, at every event I even DJed last year lol”. “Wow damn you're right! From bar balconies to burning man! And every missoula basement inbetween!”

This mix is filled with fantastic beats that hop from house to drum and bass. Starting with MumbleBee then moving to a b2b session with Pandaura before he took it to the end. It’s always special when we remember to hit record and capture the moment sonically. This one brings me right back to this magic moment when we stood on the edge of 2023 knowing there’d be something new on the horizon for us all.

DCIM is a magical event that we do every year in a remote location out in the Utah desert, filled with amazing humans and top notch vibes.  I planned a pretty technical set for this one, and the stoke of the crowd was the perfect ingredient to help pull it off.  It was an honor to play such a prime slot for this event, I hope you enjoy!

How long have you been DJing? 
* 2 Years 

Why did you get into it?
* Inadvertently via production.  I was a techy kid growing up.  I liked building and tinkering with electronics.  I liked building computers, gaming, scripting, etc.  Got into some robotics/programming in high school.  I studied Electrical and Computer Engineering in college.  It’s all rather cumulative. I just had a DAW and liked messing around, creating sounds, mini songs, mini mixes (like big booty type stuff), etc during COVID.  I then met my current significant other Caitlyn, and she introduced me to the world of festivals, raving, and DJ’s.  I was really only exposed to one side of the bigger picture. I loved the music these people made, the sounds they came up with, studios they worked in, gear they used etc.  I wasn’t a raver.  There wasn’t a scene like that where i came from and where I grew up.  So the raves and festivals and stuff was all super foreign, but once I saw the other half of the puzzle, I was like “Damn, this is pretty Rad”

* Bozeman, MT

Where are you from originally?
* Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

What inspires you about electronic music culture?
* It transcends language (like 85% of the time haha).  But you and I don’t have to speak the same language to dance to a beat at the same rhythm which each other.  I love that we can share an experience simultaneously with someone and speak no words, but be fully on the same wavelength together.  It’s pretty neat.  I’m an audiofile too so hearing the best crafted tunes on the best quality speaker systems is super enjoyable.  I also like to think the pillars and foundations of the EDM community are pretty cool because it seems people actively try to be outwardly kind and considerate to each other which promotes a good place for people to come hang and enjoy the music.

What genres are in your mix? 
* Drum and Bass  (Dancefloor, Neurofunk, Darkstep, Jump-Up)

Can you tell us a little bit about your mix? 
* This is a through and through Drum and Bass mix.  174 from start to finish.  I’ve seen the shift in sets and energy over the past couple years in DJ sets and I really have been excited seeing DnB grow within the U.S Scene.  Artists dropping big time edits in sets, collabs across genres with artists, and even just tours/availability for big shows. This set is my take on just a few of the best tracks mixed with some of my personal faves.  It’s littered with classics old and new, edits and flips from artists big and small on soundcloud, and even a couple of my own tracks in there.  I love the energy and pace DnB has, and it has such a rich extensive history to the music and breaks/beats that form it. I wanted to play a fun set highlighting the essence of DnB and what I think the Genre is and how it’s intended to be spun.  Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoy the set 🙂
