In this bonus episode of the first season of the Twin Peaks Tattoo Podcast, I get to talk with my amazingly brilliant friend and colleague Dr. Carmen Martines. We discuss the magic of fairy tales and the art of storytelling through body ink. She talks about how tattoos can commemorate a loss, capture a moment, transform a time in our life. How they are spiritual processes and become armor that protect and empower us. 

We are so lucky to have Dr. Martines share her dissertation research with us. She has a PhD in Transformative Studies and her dissertation, The Transformative Tattoo: What Can Healing from Trauma Look Like? focuses on using tattoos as a transformational tool to reclaim and re-author the body after sexual abuse trauma. 

As a psychotherapist she brings tattoo discussions into her clinical work. While she doesn’t have a Twin Peaks tattoo per say, we talk about the cultural significance of the show and all its' fairy tale wonder. Along with stories of love, joy and power, a heads up that this episode does also include conversations about sexual trauma, addiction and recovery.
