The festive season is here and I just hit 2 million plays, so it's a double celebration. Now if, like me, you think that nothing says Christmas like a bit of soul-crushingly dark techstep then I'm sure this festive offering won't disappoint. Indeed, this idea is one I've been sat on for a while; my mixing habits have definitely slowed this year but I really wanted to grind a decent one out before 2025. 

The mix rationale then. Caught up somewhere between my 500th listening of Trace & Ed Rush's legendary '97 One In The Jungle set, and the preceding year's Tech Steppin compilation, I found myself asking a simple question. What if the legendary (and it really is fucking legendary) 'No U-Turn Experience' mix had been made a year earlier? Before I knew what was what and who was behind the records, I had put together a hit list that in later years I realised was tied together with that Parsons genius. This mix collects together everything from solo productions, co-produced tunes through to tracks engineered by or mixed by the man himself. Pete always brought that buy on sight quality with the added extra magic and depth. I was chatting with Remedee about what makes his productions call out the goosebumps and Connor hit the nail on the head "It's emotion". Alongside that key ingredient, everything comes with a big ol heaped spoon of creativity and always the quality production. As a bonus its generally dj friendly arrangement (except maybe Rythm Process lol). Anyways respect to the grand master, the daddy don - thank you for doing it right 🙏🏻

Dark Drum and Bass

The air hummed with something unnamed, as if the ground had been holding its breath for eons. Underfoot, the terrain gave way with a yielding softness that spoke of histories unrecorded. No familiar scent greeted the lungs, only the crisp echo of untouched vastness.

Above, the expanse stretched with a color never charted, neither azure nor gray but something suspended between memory and dream. Shapes moved at the edge of perception—too fluid to be cloud, too deliberate to be wind. The light, sharp yet forgiving, spilled across surfaces with an intelligence of its own, carving out form from the unknown.

Each step forward unraveled a new layer—textures that shimmered without moisture, foliage that responded not to touch but to attention. Stones pulsed faintly, as though bearing witness. In the distance, a ridge curved like the shoulder of some sleeping giant, its contours ancient and unspoken.

Breath came slow. Not from fatigue, but awe. What stretched ahead was not invitation nor warning—it simply was, immense and indifferent, as if awaiting no one yet aware it was being seen for the very first time.

And in that gaze, something shifted—not just in the place, but in the one watching.
