Waves hitting a shingle beach on a cloudy and quite windy day. The microphone was on the waterline and about 75cm from the ground. The stereo image is quite strong. Walking on a the shoreline of a shingle beach on a cloudy day. The sea is on the left and there is a fair stereo image with the footsteps located centrally.  I've filtered out as much wind noise as I could.  The microphone was held on a boom about 50cm from the ground and 50cm from my feet.  Downloadable as a lossless FLAC.

About 12 minutes of ambient sounds recorded in the bar of a crowded pub in Birmingham England.  The Microphone was placed on a table and captures general crowd noise with occasional snatches of distinct speech laughter, the sounds of glasses etc. There is a stereo image but it is not extreme. Ten minutes of English autumn birdsong by a little brook in Warwickshire. The microphone was attached to a branch over the centre of the stream. There is a constant babbling from the brook, and various tweetings and squawks in the near and far field. Downloadable as a lossless FLAC. Seven minutes of a walk up New Street in Birmingham on the 4th December 2019. The microphone was held on a small boom at chest height as I walked through the crowd.  There is a good stereo image with fragments of voices from all over the world, along with preachers, buskers, skateboarders, sellers and all sorts of other people and things. Eight minutes of a large number of crows gathering in the trees by a small brook to have a crowy chat and settle down for the night. Recorded in early evening in December. The microphone was fixed to a fence and pointing up into the air. There's some stereo image, especially when the crows fly overhead.  Downloadable as a lossless FLAC.

Crows Gathering to Roost

Nine minutes of the sound of a steam locomotive pulling a passenger train on the Severn Valley Railway in Worcestershire. The recording was made inside the corridor of a BR Mark 1 carriage, just behind the locomotive, no. 7717. The microphone was on a short boom by the open window. Apart from the puff of the loco and the track noise, there are creaks and clanks from the carriage and couplings and some blasts from the whistle. Downloadable as a lossless FLAC. Steam Journey

Sixteen minutes of birdsong recorded between 5am and 7am at the start of April in Birmingham. The recording was made in a small wooded area at the back of a school. The microphone was placed as the base of a tree. A variety of garden birds can be heard including blackbird, robin, pigeon and various corvids. Listen out for the woodpecker around 7 minutes.  Apart from the birdsong, there is the occasional flatter of wings and the sound of wind in the trees.  Because of the early hour and the COVID-19 lockdown, there is no traffic noise.
