Medical Records is proud to present the quintessential first album by Gina X Performance. Gina X Performance was composed of the charismatic Gina Kikoine (vocals/lyrics) along with famous German producer/musician Zeus B. Held and backing band. Released in 1978 on various labels including EMI, “Nice Mover” has been out of print on vinyl format since 1980. Zeus B. Held has previously worked with the band Birth Control and has recorded multiple solo albums as well. “Nice Mover” has been an internationally regarded electro/disco record with various tracks appearing on compilations throughout the years (e.g. Andrew Weatherall’s “Nine O’Clock Drop”). The track “No G.D.M.” (a tribute to famous gay actor/writer/personality) was a club hit on both sides of the Atlantic and remains a commonly heard track on better DJ sets to this very day. It is made up of an infectious slow driving disco-esque beat with perfectly aligned and arranged synth accompaniments. Gina’s unmistakable and truly unique vocals and lyrics set this record apart from its contemporaries. Tackling controversial subject matter such as transgenderism, exhibitionism, and other fetishes , this record has left a deep mark on the history of new wave and electro/disco. The title track “Nice Mover” is a cosmic sequenced synth hit and also has appeared on various compilations. The bouncing “Be A Boy” is a high energy dancefloor cutter that illustrates the internal thought processes and daydreams of a female longing to become a male. “Black Sheep” continues this theme and is a very catchy number with bonus sheep sounds to keep it interesting... The closing track “Tropical Comic Strip” starts off with peaceful cricket samples and piano and builds into a bombastic production that is a fitting close to the record. Master recordings provided by Zeus B. Held and remastered by Lafayette Masters, Freiburg. Officially licensed from Mr. Held (KGBeat Productions) directly. This is a seminal work of electro/disco/wave and is essential for fans of late 70’s wave-synth-disco crossover and the like. Original reproduction artwork is preserved on the front (one of the best record covers of the entire scene) and back. Presented on high quality 180gram “bone” colored vinyl in a limited edition pressing of 1000 hand-numbered copies. Includes bonus insert with liner notes and interview by Kurt B. A late night voicemail from Cherrystones: “Phone me! I’ve got something killer! It might not make sense at first but it’ll suck you in...”
After hearing the outsider psych of ‘Distant Visions’ we are suitably hooked and the wheels are in motion to reissue the music of Maya from 1975.

It’s at this point we realise we ain’t even heard the A-side yet! Turns out it’s the heaviest heartbreak jam going…

Following on from 2015’s acclaimed Critical Mass compilation, Cherrystones and Touch Sensitive come together again to proudly present a lost masterpiece from the U.S. hard rock and psychedelic underground.

Fully remastered and faithfully reproduced on limited 7inch vinyl with additional insert featuring lyrics and notes from Burk Skyhorse Price (Maya) and Cherrystones.

Two tracks of timeless, heartfelt outsider music.

“In the drying up world of unknown homemade underground rock sounds, there never fails to be at least one scurrying rodent running for cover; bug-eyed under the flashlight of the modern-day sonic adventure seeker. Nearly all the LPs have been brought to the surface. More recently rabid fuzz and loner sound explorers are rubbing elbows with Northern Soul speed-freaks in the deep cold, hour-eating world of coverless 45s to seek out what could be seen as the final frontier of no budget, big dream and no fan base homemade local vulnerable Rock ’n’ Roll.

So what do we have here? A UK discovered and repressed Ohio private nuclear soul bomb by Burk Skyhorse Price with his Maya unit from the shadows of Cincinnati Ohio, in the music-world turmoil years of 1975.

The single has all the ingredients: songs about heartache, bubbling synths, alien feelings, proto-punk, backwards feedback, isolation.

Two lengthy songs of two different moods: “SYNTHEZOID HEARTBREAK” a "Fuck You!” to all partners that want you to join the Real Estate game and turn in your misfired Envelope pedals for a suit and tie; rendered musically in a raging underground punk damage mode.

But I think the small band of freaks that have heard Maya’s lone 45 agree that its the pro-Alien sad dirge of “DISTANT VISIONS" that gets the pen scratching the history books for another legendary entry. This reflective afternoon delay lurker makes me wonder what happened AFTER the fade out to "Visions”. 
Maybe the homemade air siren blew out the studio?
Regardless, here is a big dreaming band that left quite a brief one-two punch to the face of the industry that had no place for their punk and lonely sound poems. Funny but fitting how they have finally found a home forty years later and many continents away. Solid homemade damage here, touching AND sensitive, albeit crushingly loud.”

The Antinote guys have always been keen on introducing new names to you and this addition to the label’s catalogue makes no exception to the rule: they are pleased to present Sfarot, the debut EP from Alek Lee, a musician currently living in Tel-Aviv.

The geographic origin of the artists on the Parisian imprint has never been felt as much as on Alek Lee’s debut 12”. In a very “fourth world” manner, Alek Lee brings together middle-eastern influences in his music with ease and without ever having it sounding cliché: on Harabait and Sfarot (and its dub version), his friends and him play the violin, the bass clarinet and the accordion in a way which reminds of Klezmer music, putting the three songs on the EP in line with both his musical education and his cultural background. 

This seems strikingly true when taking into account the process Alek Lee went through to record the tittle-track: the original material used in Sfarot comes from a recording Lee did a few years, and on which were recorded traditional songs Israeli children used to learn at school, performed by a choir of very young kids. Both conceptually and musically hypnotizing, Sfarot and its dub version take the listener on a slightly psychedelic trip
as the haunted voices from the kids loose themselves in long reverbs and are backed by a wide range of instruments played by the Israeli musician including an electric organ, percussions, etc.

And if you are still in need of more dubby excursions, the closing track is the one for you !

August 2018: It’s already been three years since Domenique Dumont made its entrance in the music world with a debut EP named Comme Ca. Despite a seemingly very quiet musical activity (the opening song to Antinote’s compilation Five Years Of Loving Notes was the only song released by the band in 3 years) a few things have changed in-between these two summers: Domenique Dumont is no more the mysterious lone French producer we introduced last time but a Latvian duo, Arturs Liepins and Anete Stuce, which has been collaborating with “an enigmatic French artist whose existence cannot be confirmed nor denied” (sorry, but it sounds like there’s still some mystery in the air, and, again, we’re just as clueless as you might be), the duo have been touring live and, most importantly, they kept on broadening their musical palette experimenting in a definitely pop field. Eight of these experiments are now tied together in Miniatures de Auto Rhythm.

The record probably begins where Comme Ca ended: frantic but light drum programing backbones a solar and slightly melancholic melody on Le Début De La Fin (“the beginning of the end”). However, the scope gets enlarged as soon as one reaches the second tune, Quasi Quasi, or Quand, on the flip side, perhaps the most overtly pop-rock oriented song on the record with its Mediterranean guitar and emotional bridge.

The road towards the apex of the record, Le Soleil Dans Le Monde, is a narrow and windy one, punctuated by toy instrumentals like Ono Mambo Haiku or the Donkey Kong Country-friendly Message Of The Diving Bird; however it never departs from its original tongue-in-cheek attitude. It’s quite pleasant to imagine these eight “miniatures” as field recordings from an enchanted world of pop music designed by some Pierre & Gilles’ disciples – or are there
musical interpretations of half-mechanical, half-organic creations from a certain Otto Rhiesem (who might have inhabited the Locus Solus villa)? There might be no definitive answers to this second set of riddles by Domenique Dumont.
