I've been really into Dark Souls lately, and I absolutely LOVE the music. The other day I was thinking, what if there was some ambient bgm in Darkroot Garden? So I had the idea for this melody...and I tried to include subtle references to Sif's and Moonlight Butterfly's themes since they are both found in that area. I was inspired by the majestic music that plays at Ash Lake!

I submitted this piece for my final project in my video game music class and I had a lot of fun writing it! :^) The melody actually has a bit of a backstory: a few months back, I had been attempting to compose my own Divine Beast theme like those in Breath of the Wild (since they are animal-centric, I had a butterfly in mind), and I had created the main melody of this song for that purpose. However, I added new instruments (bass, percussion, gamelan bells) and sped up the tempo to make this new piece unique. I think that the percussion gives the piece a futuristic, almost steampunk feel along with the gritty bass. I definitely would picture this near the end of a game, in one of the areas just before the final boss.
