This is the second song posted from the album Bitzone, Stricknice, Wou-Wou & the Wormling, and I have been working on together with a number of other friends on SoundCloud. The first song shared was the late 80s indie American underground inspired song, Ghosting Out, that include Bonetender joining with his transistor organ and guitar. The Show / The Shrike Pt. 3 is one of the 4 songs on the album inspired by Wou-Wou & the Wormling’s graphic novel, the Shrike, which inspired this project. 

Massive thanks to Carlos Vivanco and Belial Pelegrim for joining us on this track. This is the 2nd song Belial has joined me on and the first song I have had the privilege of working with Carlos on. It is amazing to have them both on the same track together. I feel so lucky to get to work with all my favorite musicians.

I am so glad that making music has maintained our friendship and kept us together. Some people maintain friendships through going out to eat, watching sporting events, doing family things together, etc. I make music with my friends. 

Thanks to Russ and Jon for being my musical friends as well. Jon is so awesome, I can say, let's try making a late 60’s psychedelic cumbia inspired track, and he can then say, sure! And Russ is always down for the ride, thanks for taking over the wheel while we trip on some shrooms, lol!

Jon shared “Monkey Parts” with me while we were discussing an unreleased track we were working on. Jon’s original track instantly inspired me and the lyrics easily flowed onto the paper (actually I write all my lyrics in Apple Notes, lol) and then into GarageBand (using my Apple headphone mic to everyone who mixes my vocals exasperation). I held onto the unmixed track for a while (really for no good reason besides it wasn’t in the stars’ plan until now) and then finally worked up the urge to “git er done.” 

As for the lyrics, the last time I had anything weed related was probably 11 years ago in California. At that time, all things marijuana were relatively easy to acquire since many of my friends had “doctor’s notes” to go to the medical dispensaries. It was fun to try all the new novel dope products people were making and selling. Since living in Oregon, for over 6 years now, I have not once thought about partaking in the herb, even though I can easily walk to several cannabis stores from my home. I think there are more pot stores in the Portland area than convenient stores, I do not live in a reefer desert, lol. But still, I was inspired to write a song about maryjane.

I wrote the lyrics to Sneekie San Salvador many, many years ago as an alter ego to the more positive Couch King. I was probably channeling a bit of Dr. Octagon. The lyrics may have also been an accessing of the shadow side of parenting. The voice of the devil on your shoulder. Initially (about a year ago or maybe more) I was only going to use the Sneekie San Salvador lyrics for a short and easy song with Tensor. I sent my vocals to Tensor over a basic hip hop drum loop, but after Tensor sent me his production work for the track I was inspired to write more lyrics. Deeper was written before, "I Don't Owe Ya," but explores the similar theme of troubled youth. I thought Heatscore's dark cold metal guitar work would help emphasize the bleak landscape of the theme and I knew Ill Dub would help bring out the crazy. 

Huge thanks to Tensor for his incredible patience waiting for this track to be completed and released. Thanks to Heartscore for still being a friend and inspiration and collaborator on so many different projects. Thanks to Ill Dub for always being there for me through much of my journey on SoundCloud. All these musicians are my family.

This song is part of an LP of 12 songs that I made with Stricknice, Bitzone, and Wou-Wou & The Wormling (and many other friends who you all know on SoundCloud) from a massive set of demo tracks that Wou-Wou graciously passed on to me. Basically, this LP worth of songs was an early pandemic gift cause I had a little extra time on my hands to make music! I was originally going to release all the songs in one long track but one of my muses kept telling me to release this song on its own and I eventually succumbed to her wishes. I am massively grateful for all the work Stricknice, Bitzone, and Wou-Wou put into this big project. There may be more songs from this project that trickle out before the whole set is released. It was super cool to finally work with Bontender on a song. I have been a big fan of his indie rock sound for a long time. Bonetender rocks!!! 

This song goes out to all the loners, weirdoes, freaks, and geeks out there. Who cares what society wants you to be. Be yourself and you just do you! There are plenty of normal people in the world already.
