We as Ghanaians unfortunately cannot act blind to the issue because it’s closer to us than we think. Our allegiance will always be to our fellow people, the powerless,voiceless, armless citizens as we also are and as such we can not sit and watch clueless to this unfounded corruption in our Motherland. We by this Episode are extending our voice and our power to our Fellow Africans and Nigerians and we say #ENDSARSIMMEDIATELY. #ENDCORRUPTION. “As far as I’m concerned since we met you people 500 years ago, Look at us we’ve given EVERYTHING, you’re still TAKING....” Sad but true words from the Great Ghanaian writer Ama Ata Aidoo who was Lamenting on the looting of Africa’s natural resources by the West in an interview as far back as 1987. The disparaging part about her prophetic words is, its almost 40 years past this interview and the West’s looting still persists and still going strong as we speak. Dr Congo is a classic example of this and we’ve been made aware of in this past few weeks. It’s absurd how the Mass Media in Africa is giving more platform to the US Elections than they are giving to some of these pertinent issues. From 1992 till now, more than 6 Million lives have been lost to the issues of the Mining of Precious minerals such as Coltan. Coltan is used in the manufacturing of Tantalum Capacitors which are found in every Electronic device not just Mobile Phones. If not for anything, these huge tech industries found in the west owe it to their huge customer base in Africa to attempt a solution to the inherent issues but they lay unperturbed. We, therefore can not be latent on this issue. We’ve put together a piece on the background and history of DR Congo; the events that led to the Mineral conflicts, child labor, systematic rape culture, Militant groups in DR Congo, the after effects of the Rwandan Genocide in Mineral Conflict and the role of The UN and the US in the conflicts.
