Rebūke returns to Drumcode with a trio of timeless dancefloor weapons.

The Irishman’s ‘Rattle’ was a standout of 2019, judged by DJ Mag as their no.22 top track of the year and is etched in the Drumcode discography as one of the most original releases to date. A valued part of Adam Beyer’s extended collective; he would have made his Drumcode event debut at WMC in Miami this March. Without a doubt, a sophomore EP was always on the cards.

‘Instatik’ kicks the work into gear, a rugged, reverb-heavy cut with industrial drums that pump like pistons and an undulating synth effect that makes you feel like you’re on a turbo-charged rollercoaster. ‘Livewire’ has the trademark Rebūke brain-scrambling stamp on it, a flurry of steelyard percussion bring the track to life, before a low-end melody swells to attention, rubbing shoulders deliciously with driving drumlines, for an uplifting second half. The title track ‘Obscurity’ is a dark slice of techno funk, filled with synapse-tickling arpeggios, before a rollicking groove takes hold and launches the track home at full-flight. Another thrilling and innovative release to add to the Rebūke canon.

“I think 2020 will go down in history as the craziest year of our lifetime. The future is still pretty unknown right now and things are drastically changing week to week. With that in mind, I felt ‘Obscurity’ would be a fitting title for my second Drumcode EP. It represents the state of being unknown, unclear or difficult to understand – feelings I’m sure most of us are going through right now.  Most the tracks aside from ‘Livewire’ were written in quarantine; ‘Livewire’ was written right before the virus shut the world down, in a hotel room in Lima, Peru in January. This EP is my favourite to date as I think it shows a different side to my musical palette, whilst still developing the signature sound heard in all my music.” - Rebūke

City Wall Records presents Late Creataceous Part 2. The 10th and final studio album by Finnish producer Tuomas Rantanen in his “Prehistoric series”, now totalling 100 tracks all released over 7 years. Previously in the series, Early Cretaceous Part 2 (2019), Early Cretaceous Part 1 (2016), Late Jurassic (2015), Middle Jurassic (2015), Early Jurassic (2015), Late Triassic (2015), Middle Triassic (2014) and Early Triassic (2014).

Tuomas has mastered the art of creating a space where the music lover can be as content listening in their living room as they can be jacking on the dancefloor, a feat few have managed. This perfect medium is achieved because his work is both “mind music” and “body music”.

With “Brachyceratops” an energy vortex that draws everything in– the magnificently ferocious kick drum, suck out the low and leaves that whip-crack of a mid-kick snap, snap, snap. A thousand other things are happening but they are hard to see right now, they are very hard to see.

UMEK is back on his label 1605 with another stomping two tracker in his usual style of peak time techno with powerful melodies and thundering percussion.

After recently collaborating with The YellowHeads, this new one is a solo effort from UMEK who remains one of 2020’s best selling techno producers.

1605 continues to be the main outlet for UMEK’s music, but his impressive back catalogue includes classic releases on influential labels. More recently his tracks can also be found on Terminal M, Tronic, Suara and Filth On Acid.

“Intricately” kick starts proceedings with its throbbing sub bass and titanic groove cemented by an explosive kick drum. After revealing an understated melody part that that morphs into something of a monster as it unfolds, the already ferocious track changes gears in the breakdown to hit the home straight in vigorous style.

Taking its title from the vocal sample, “Astronaut Program” focuses in on the euphoria of an arpeggiating lead synth that adds an uplifting contrast to the otherwise dark atmosphere. The fast-paced rhythms of its techno backing track give it a relentless energy perfect for causing maximum impact on the dance floor.

After a banging release on IAMT, we are glad to welcome R.A.N on CODEX with his "Residency Report" release!
Andrew Ran, known professionally as R.A.N, is a Ukrainian bred up-and-coming techno talent whose promising work thus far has landed him several impressive gigs at Codex Showcases in both Odesa and his hometown of Kyiv in recent months. The new decade has been more than fruitful for the budding artist, having scored a highly-coveted residency at Heaven, one of Kyiv’s most famous nightclubs, as well as several hour-long techno mixes for Radio Intense. His debut foray into the realm of dance music with ‘Red Channel On’ is set to launch his studio career with great force and will serve as a glimpse of things to come from the promising artist.
