Just when London is basking in scorching temperatures, we turn away from our more abrasive electronics sounds to we bring you a new mixtape soothing as a fresh summer breeze by Dukes of Chutney. The transcontinental trio of Dustin Lynn, John Paul Jones, and Petra have been exploring the different spaces and places with their productions, between nothingness and nature, that nurture inner and outer peace. Cosmic yet intimate, long-gestating and free-flowing, diffuse and centred. 

Jones' has established a beguiling production touch to various edits and remixes Under the moniker Tom Croose. Lynn is an accomplished filmmaker who has collaborated with artist Gabriel Orozco and directed campaigns for designers Alexander McQueen and Corto Moltedo.

The trio’s recently published their debut album, hazel (rvng Intl), the Dukes turned towards their immediate sanctum and a network of friends and colleagues. As they say, Hazel explores life’s wandering ways while widening its path. Recorded from remote yet commonly tranquil corners of the world over six years, Hazel is illustrated from a colourful palette of dub, folk, Balearic, and otherwise blissful sounds, somehow escaping categorisation in its pursuit of uninhibited joy. It was a long, not necessarily strange trip as much as a revelatory journey, with recording sessions taking place from Venice Beach to Sausalito, Mexico City to Minneapolis, Sicily to Berlin (where vocalist Petra calls home), national parks to beachside drifts, with an East Village studio apartment thrown in for good, gritty measure. Each landscape seeps into Hazel and causes the colours to run even more.

Very much following hazel’s steps, this mixtape is Inspired by an island fantasy trip to Indonesia with elements of Rastafarian mountain ceremonials, and Balearic hedonism, featuring an unreleased original by Dustin Lynn and a Dukes of Chutney remix by Peter Kruder.

Avenue Red welcomes Prakash, an experienced DJ and producer from the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, one of the Canary Islands about 150 kilometres off the northwestern coast of Africa. Prakash is a very knowledgeable guy and has been collecting music and spinning for almost 15 years, along the way releasing stacks of masterful mixtapes and playing at some interesting gigs internationally, as well as at home. He also turned his hand to music production and running his own vinyl label, Travellin Music, where he has featured on the only release to date with a remix from Vancouver tech house legend Jay Tripwire.

Prakash is a true cross-genre DJ, but it's clear to see his strong focus on the 90's/early 2000's tech house sounds from the origin of the genre. He lists among his Music idols: Craig Richards, Terry Francis, Steve Bug, Mike Huckaby, ZIP, Move D, Kerri Chandler, Nathan Coles, Bushwacka! and Silverlining AKA Asad Rizvi. That list makes for a tidy aperitif for what's in store in this presentation, his glowing CD-length mix for Avenue Red.

No summer break for the Live Moments series that actually files to Asia for the very first time. In fact, this episode comes from the enormous and chaotic Seoul, which, however, unveils secret gems like the Concrete Bar, the perfect spot to hide from the daily frenzy. It is right here that the talented Red Pig Flower had the chance to drop some slow minimal rollers in which dub intricated rhythms perfectly match with dub and trippy sonorities. The Berlin-based artist has seen enormous growth over the last couple of years with releases on Serialism, mousikētekhnē and of course her own Sound Of Vast, which is now the home of renowned DJs such as Subb-an, Cinthie and Vid to name a few. Her kind of weird n' funky nature is impossible to not notice, but this made her one of the most interesting acts in the female panorama, that still too often struggles to find the deserved space. Enjoy the moment...
