At our recent recording session with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain we produced a selection of Christmas tracks.

The second of these, 'We wish you a Merry Christmas' is a traditional English Christmas carol, listed as numbers 230 and 9681 in the Roud Folk Song Index. The famous version of the carol is from the English West Country.

"Rocking Carol" is a traditional Czech carol arranged here for brass band by Scottish composer Alan Fernie.

It is played here by David Crisp the principal cornet with the Clifton and Lightclifffe Band in their latest CD recording of Christmas music "Christmas Joy".

"Rocking Carol"

'Out of Space' was written in 2019 by the Austrian-born composer Thomas Doss, and is performed here by the Band of HM Royal Marines Collingwood.

The programme notes for the music reads, 
"If you were to gaze at the Tyrol from outer space, you would be staring into the very heart of Europe. Right in the middle lies the beautiful town of Haiming which is celebrating its 750th birthday in 2019. Haiming is famous in the Tyrol for its fruit production -- especially for apples. Following a calm introductory passage, admiring the view of Europe from outer space, we launch into a cheerful allegro festivo, which captures the joyful celebration to mark Haiming’s 750-year milestone."

"Out Of Space" Thomas Doss

"Part of Your World" is a song written by lyricist Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken for Disney's animated feature film The Little Mermaid (1989).
This innovative recording was made  by the YBS Band as part of a weekly BBC Radio programme, 'Listen to the Band'.
The singer is Helen Massey, former BBC Choirgirl of the Year. She is a Warrington girl and I see she is now doing very well on the operatic scene.

Part Of Your World

Simon Johnson, a native of Lancashire, has been the Principal Trombone of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra since 2002.

He is featured here playing Gordon Langford's "Rhapsody for Trombone" with Kingdom Brass on his solo CD 'A Bit on the Slide'. The CD is available to purchase here:-
