Influenced by walking in the countryside, “The Road” is about the journey that is life and muddling your own way through it, as well as all the people you meet, leave and sometimes rejoin along the way.

The Road

This is the second single off of our upcoming second EP “On the Verge.”

It was written in 2019, on a footpath in Long Melford, and has undergone a few meaning changes to us over the time since. Longing and wistful, peaceful but also somewhat fierce and determined, it often brings audiences to absolute silence when played live and we think we all need to take the advice the song gives.

“Horizon” is the musical imagining of a simpler life and an expression of that desire to get away from your struggles. A moment where you drift off and imagine a calmer place with more connection and peace. It’s a call to action to always TRY to make time for the good stuff because the world WILL keep turning and time will pass you by.

Five years after the release of our first EP 'Here's Something,' we present 'On The Verge,' an EP inspired by journeys through the world and journeys through our own lives, roads and paths, and the natural world. 

For this EP we expanded our sound to include our longtime friend and collaborator Dominic Mackie on Banjo, Mandolin and Guitar, whilst keeping the core of Tenor Guitar, Bass and harmony vocals with the bass drum and percussion that have become a part of our live performances over the past couple of years. 

This music feels very rooted in the paths, roads and trackways around Long Melford, Suffolk- in fact some of the songs were part written on them, and so to reflect this the songs have been recorded onto soundscapes that were recorded at these locations, at different times of the year.

'Feeling Low?' is the first song of our first EP 'Here's Something.'

Feeling Low?

'Autumn Air' is the second track from our first EP 'Here's Something.' 

The song is primarily about Autumn, the most magical time of year, when the nights draw in, the trees turn red and gold, it gets a little colder, and the smell of woodsmoke often hangs in the air. The song tries to draw on this, alluding to the excitement brought by festivals to come such as Halloween, Guy Fawkes and later- Christmas.

However the song has other themes. It is told from the point of view of someone who has recently lost someone. How can they enjoy the magic of Autumn now?  “The air turned cold and chill on the day that you left, so summer turned and the world moved on” is the opening line. The world keeps turning and the nights draw in and you’re left alone with your thoughts and memories, and winter is coming! But the song ends with a gleam of hope, because while the world’s relentless turning brings winter, it will also always bring spring.

Autumn Ayre

This is track four off of our EP 'Here's Something.' It is a ska/punk song written by David with the help of his friend James in 2009. Polly sings a different song about the writing of that song overlaid on top, so two songs for the price of one! Pick which you want to listen to... This was also BBC Introducing in Suffolk presenter Angelle's top song for 2018. She said this live on air on the boxing day special 2018.

Make Yourself A Sandwich

Award-winning British indie-folk duo 'False Colours' bring a refreshing blend of honesty, professionalism and playful self-deprecation to the stage as they perform their unique and intricate style of 'happy/sad, rhythmic, jangle indie folk music.
 
Their inventive and ear worm-inducing songwriting combines traditional open and fresh sounding folk style tunes, with a tenor guitar sound which is reminiscent of 1960’s jangle pop -which David plays both rhythmically and melodically, at the same time as providing a percussive drive via a foot pedal cajon. The duo began performing together in 2018 and in their first couple of months were booked to perform at the coveted FolkEast Festival. Being determined not to pass up the opportunity to make a good impression, they recorded, mixed and mastered their first EP ‘Here’s Something’ live in one day and released it that summer. This EP came to the attention of BBC Introducing and has received regular airplay since -as well as becoming a popular hit for listeners of Cambridge 105 Radio, where the title track ‘Here’s Something’ held a position in the Unsigned Chart for twenty weeks.
 
2019 saw False Colours support Miranda Sykes (Show of Hands) as well as being rebooked for FolkEast in another full summer programme of festivals.
