The work is in two movements - Fraying and Prolonged. The first presents a sonic object that gradually disintegrates. The second reframes this object and slows it down, so that the process of decay is frozen, and the object appears almost immortal. The work grew out of reflections on 1 Corinthians 15 and Jiang Zhi's Love Letters (2014). In Jiang Zhi's photographs, flowers are on fire, but are not harmed by the flames.

Dans le cadre de nos émissions « Pourquoi tant d’histoires », retour sur l’art délicat de l’écriture de cette science. La revue Ecrire l’histoire (n°19) propose de réfléchir sur « la double dimension du rapport de l’historien aux langues, pensées à la fois comme outils et comme objets ». Cette science de l’histoire a de profondes racines en littérature. Chaque peuple, chaque civilisation revendique son récit de la création, son mythe fondateur comme départ de son histoire. L’histoire n’est-elle alors que littérature ? Peut-on réfléchir sur l’histoire de ce récit, sur la langue de ce récit ? Peut-on définir des concepts linguistiques qui déterminent l’histoire ? Le langage peut-il alors être un terrain d’investigation ? Mari-Gwenn Carichon reçoit Fabien Simon.

L'invité: Fabien Simon est maître de conférences en histoire moderne (Université Paris-Diderot)  spécialiste d’histoire des représentations et des savoirs. Il a travaillé sur les langues universelles avec un thèse de doctorat portant sur le thème suivant : Sortir de Babel. Une République des Langues en quête d’une « langue universelle » à la Renaissance et à l’Age classique ? Fabien Simon qui a coordonnée l’écriture du numéro 19 de la revue Ecrire l'histoire: L'historien et les langues, avec Paule Petitier et Claude Millet (novembre 2019, CNRS éditions, 284 pages, 25,00€)

Wednesday night, playing with loops, one seven beats long, the other eight, then layering occasional accent notes. Fade in and out just turning the knob on the amp once the loops were left to their looping. Recorded to phone put in front of the amp. Not sure why the eight-beat loop is more prominent than the seven-beat one, except perhaps that it's in 4/4 so the brain registers it more easily. Also not sure about that one hiccup at :46 seconds. Something suddenly went out of alignment and then came just as suddenly back into alignment. The bit at the very end isn't a tape cassette stopping. It just sounds like that.
