Languor

Imagine swimming in a rushing river and letting yourself be carried by the current, with sudden changes in speed and areas of relative calm. Near a waterfall you are then forced to go against the current, your speed decreases and you have to force yourself to swim to escape the waterfall.
It is an allegory of the risk you run by letting yourself be dragged through life by the common trend and, if you realize the abyss, you have to work hard to change the way you live to escape the impending ruin and reach salvation.

Every day it feels like the world’s getting a little more crazy

I pick up my dumbbells and I watch a fitness video on my TV
And I exercise all those negative thoughts right out of me
I lift those weights up and down and I huff and I puff 
And I keep on going at it until I think I’ve had enough

Every time I go to the grocery store the food is more expensive
I go home, I look at my bank account, I feel so apprehensive
I drive to work, every day and the commute is not that great
I turn on the news, it’s so bad, the world is in a sorry state

After a hard day of working 9 to five

You can pick up your dumbbells
And pump yourself up. You can do it.
Or you can lie on the sofa and watch TV
If you want to bed rot it’s so easy
And the only burn you’ll feel is from the hot sauce on your chicken wings

I Pick Up My Dumbbells

My song, Close to Me, has both a musical and personal meaning.  The musical meaning is my love and use of cluster chords and the "close" harmonies, often dissonant, to create melodic and bass line interest with elements of surprise and emotion. Inverting a simple 7th chord ( 1 3 5 7;  7 1 3 5;  3 5 7 1;  5 7 1 3) are examples to try. Then go crazy and add a 9th or 11th tone in the bass or melodic lead. If anything, you will be inspired!
The other meaning is my personal closeness to music as a form of expression and the happiness it brings to my life everyday!
