Three out of four years when monitoring Black Terns in Sörsjön, Tämnaren I have had Little Crakes calling. Nothing last year but in 2022 I had two Little Crakes with the so called female call, in 2021 one with the female call, and this year one with the male call. This species is just barely seen every year in Sweden so Sörsjön is probably the best place in Sweden to hear this rare bird.

Not sure what is the connection between these two Tawny Owls. During previous weeks, couple of young owls wandered into my country house garden from time to time and seemed to be playful. Maybe now they are trying to be more mature but still playing around with their voices? 
Anyway, this is a lovely-sounding duet as they happen to sing in harmony (minor third?).

A little night music by Tawny Owls

Thursday the 9th of May.  Up at 3.10am.  Set up the Lewitts and the X8 down by the Sauna house, the 8020’s and the MixPre set to 65db gain,  in the Nature School garden, finally the WA84’s with the DR100, set to 51.5 db gain.  I am more happy with the results from the WA84’s for this morning compared with the previous day.  The School garden recording was the best of all, wonderful, very even all over levels and in general good chorus with lots of species.  The Lewitts recording was at a perfect levels, only the Wagtail near the end went very high, but I wasn’t going to pull down the whole recording for the sake of such a short few calls, so I made a separate recording out of that and pulled down the levels by a full 25db, it still sounds great, the 32bit floating point really works well.  It was colder than the previous day, minus 2C. Back to bed at 5.45am.   After lunch I went for a walk up the new road, saw two places where I can place mics.  Took it easy for a lot of the day.   Later I went out to a place nearby where there is the new road down to the other house and setup the 8020s with the MixPre to record the evening chorus as I liked what I heard in there when going for a walk.  An aircraft went right through the middle of this recording, however there is enough in duration each side of the noise to make it fairly okay.  4172.  Equipment; A pair of Warm Audio 84's and a Tascam DR100 recorder.
