Weaving dreamily through the gloom
Well on our way to nowhere
Carrying one innocent wish
Whistling up ghosts out of thin air

Wispy clouds scurry ‘cross the sky
Spirits in the night they fly
Miniature and murmuring
Amusement etched behind their eyes

Me with my shallow heart
And a flimsy little laughing ghost
Form an improbable friendship
Driven from pillar to post

The arching silence of the sky
Teems with grand despairing gestures
In a quiet, grey dissolve surrounded
By small glass adventures

Hesitate in the ordinary dark
Night big with a roar of wind
In a kind of furious daze
Limited, uncurious, tired, chagrinned

Me with my shallow heart
