"Unethical behavior within organizations is not rare. Peev & Realitycheck investigate experimentally the role of status-seeking behavior in sabotage and cheating activities aiming at improving one's performance ranking in a flat-wage environment. They find that average effort is higher when individuals are informed about their relative performance. However, ranking feedback also favors disreputable behavior. Some individuals do not hesitate to incur a cost to improve their rank by sabotaging others' work or by increasing artificially their own performance. Introducing sabotage opportunities has a strong detrimental effect on performance. Therefore, ranking incentives should be used with care. Inducing group identity discourages sabotage among peers but increases in-group rivalry."

Beginning life in February of this year, French label Music For Commercials' mission is focused on environmental preservation, recycling old materials like floppy discs and VHS cassette tapes to house the music. After a compilation featuring around 14 artists, they're returning with their sophomore release, an EP from Realitycheck and Peev, which will be available on VHS. The two French producers—the former known for his releases on Unknown To The Unknown and Renascence and the latter for his ambient productions and Rinse FM residency–come together for three original tracks that match their tastes for mysterious atmospheres and tight drum work.

"The year is 1997 and my 7-year-old self is watching a phosphor green caret blinking on a deep black background. I can't write a line of code, but the aesthetic is charming, with its strictness, its coldness, and its simple yet functional design. A floppy disk is the only way to store data, and you have to be careful, selective in what you want to preserve.
 
The year is 2014 and Chelidon Frame is born, an electroacoustic project where I can turn myself loose and experiment with sounds, structures, and unconventional approaches. Since the beginning of this voyage, I always wanted to do a coding/programming-related series of songs, to recapture both the aesthetic and the limitations of those initial days.
 
The year is 2021 and after hearing what overly compression and bit rate reduction can do to a sound I came up with an idea: do a full digital 10-minutes track - limiting myself only in using software instruments, without actual recordings - and shrink it down to the overall quality of 8kbps, to let it fit inside a floppy disk or through a 56k modem connection. The result is a new piece, where the imperfections and the difference between today and twenty years ago emerge in the foreground, resulting in a completely new and different aural perspective.
 
The main theme in this 10-minute soundscape named "Mind Static" is coding, coding errors, and less common (and therefore evocative) subjects, from esoteric hexadecimal code DEAD10CC to frequent bad approaches like "Cargo cult programming"." Chelidon Frame

[Résidence] Le béguin pour Music For Commercials (26.11.21)

After rare apparitions on compilations, sound designer Victor Morello aka @zerocrossingpoint brings to light his very first full length release. "Iteration of the Self" gathers 8 tracks created on a 4 years interval and based on countless reworks and adjustments, mirroring a dense period of self transformation for the producer. Inspired by Ambient, Musique Concrete, Film Score, Club and Metal, Zero Crossing Point delivers a stunning piece of hybrid electronics, sometimes extreme, sometimes uplifting and cinematic.

Use and abuse of home made synthesised sounds and personal field recordings create an uncommon universe in which reverb, granular synthesis, distortion and resonators pave the way for an astonishing sense of narration. Drawing inspiration from nature observations, bizarre movies, books and video games, the Grenoble-based producer built a wonderful piece transcribing strong unsayable emotions and exploring the concept of iteration.

Multiple listenings are highly recommended!
