My second collaboration with the fantastic Eclectic Collective. Thank you for this awesome experience, Josh, Ken, Stephen, JJ, and Tez!

This song started as a basic, yet melodically very strong composition by Terry involving him playing a synthesizer over a beat he created. He first shared it with Stephen, as they are regular collaborators in their project, Texas Tea, which are worth checking out on both of their pages, as well. Stephen then turned it over the the Eclectic Collective to work our magic on it.
  Josh was first up to the plate with this one, adding his deep, five string fretless bass to Terry's rudimentary beat. Ken was next up, however, adding the driving drum beat you hear, for which he used Terry's beat as a template and augmented a full kit sound to it. Stephen followed Ken, adding his striking wah guitar part to the whole thing. Tez was up soon after with his searing guitar soloing towards the end. Last, but certainly not least, JJ added the soulful electric piano you hear giving it a funk throughout, as well as the tambourine and the cool triange dings. 
  Now that it was in the bag, we decided to ask Stephen to produce and mix it for us, which he did in his typical expert fashion, as well as the doing the mastering, too.
  This is our holiday offering to all our fans, friends, colleagues, and peers. While it's not particularly a holiday song, it's a good display of where we are musically, and shows some of the flavor we want to add in the new year. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it. Happy holidays to you, and many happy returns!

This song began as a bass composition recorded as a stem by Mark. He named it after a hang out spot he and his friends used to go to as teenagers to drink beer and smoke bowls. He shared it with JJ, who turned it over to the Eclectic Collective so that we could have our way with it. However, Mark didn't use a click track to record it, so when he sent it to us, Ken had to come up with a drum beat based on Mark's structure, to which Mark then redid his bass part. That takes a lot of imagination on Ken's part when we do something that way.
The first one of us to lay down a part for it was Chris, who added some really freaky textural guitar. Ken was next up, completing the rhythm section with his mighty drums. Ken then redid his part to better match the bass, thus completing the rhythm section with his mighty drums. Then, Stephen laid down the gritty, underlying rhythm guitar that runs throughout. Josh was up next, adding his melodic wah guitar to the mix. JJ came along soon after and laid down the magical synth that runs throughout. Last, but not least. Tez dropped the fiery solo towards the end.
Once the music was all laid down, we thought it could use some oohs and aahs at the end, so Josh recorded them as a five part harmony. However, choosing to only use the highest thee parts in the song, our expert producer on this one, Tez, decided to make a coda out of all five. So, stick around for a treat at the end!
This is the third song the Eclectic Collective has done as a collab with Mark F. He's a very talented solo bassist, whose other music worth checking out on his page, as well. We hope you enjoy listening to this song as much as we enjoyed creating it.

Why This Song Matters Now More Than Ever

This is a song built around the words of Bishop Mariann Budde—a voice of conscience who, at a critical moment in American history, stood against the misuse of faith for political power. Her plea, once spoken in defiance of injustice, now finds new urgency in the face of the United States’ current trajectory. This is more than a song; it is a moral reckoning, a call to action, and a reminder of the responsibility we all bear to defend truth, justice, and human dignity.

The United States is at a crossroads. Democracy, long upheld as the nation’s defining principle, faces unprecedented threats. From voter suppression to efforts to dismantle essential civil rights, the country is shifting toward a reality where power is consolidated in the hands of the few. Project 2025—a radical blueprint for authoritarian governance—looms over the nation, threatening to reshape institutions to serve ideological extremism. It seeks to erode democratic norms, silence dissent, and redefine the role of government in ways that prioritize control over freedom.

At the same time, the world watches as America’s influence extends beyond its borders. Policies on immigration, climate action, military engagement, and global diplomacy send ripples across the planet. The rise of authoritarian movements worldwide mirrors the shifts happening in Washington, where faith is increasingly weaponized to justify oppression rather than liberation.

Bishop Budde’s words first gained prominence when she condemned the use of a sacred space—the grounds of St. John’s Episcopal Church—for a political stunt. Her voice rose against the exploitation of faith as a tool of power. That moment resonated because it laid bare a dangerous truth: when religious symbols are co-opted for political gain, justice suffers. Today, that same warning must be heeded, as faith communities again find themselves at the center of political battles over human rights, freedom of thought, and the very meaning of moral leadership.

By turning these words into music, this song serves as both a tribute and a challenge. Music has always been a force of resistance, from spirituals sung in defiance of slavery to anthems of the civil rights movement. In a time of increasing division, this song offers a unifying message, reminding people of the power of conscience and the necessity of standing up for what is right.

The urgency of this release cannot be overstated. As laws are rewritten, as voices of opposition are silenced, as fear is leveraged to justify the loss of fundamental freedoms, the need for moral clarity grows. This song is not just about the past—it is about now. It is about ensuring that faith, hope, and justice are not manipulated, but instead used as forces for liberation.
