During the long Covid months I lost my creativity and connection to music somehow. Rarely played and listened. I guess it was a result of missing new impressions. Maybe some of you had similar experiences? However, I have started writing and recording again. First of all I would like to share this little acoustic instrumental. Hope you enjoy it!

Hope

Hey Everybody!
The war in the Ukraine has really pressed me down the last weeks. Haven't had much energy for anything. However, under the surface something was developing, growing in my head. Yesterday I picked myself up and started writing and recording. The song just happened to me, within two hours it was finished. All you hear was just first take recording, electric guitar and bass was fully improvised. That's not the way I work usually, but this time I decided to leave it just the way it is, despite of any flaws there are. But I wanted to keep the spontaneity of the recording.

If I would ever had the opportunity to raise some questions to the man in the Kremlin, I think it would be those:

Hello Everybody!

For me, America was always the country which brought democracy and freedom back to Europe after the dark times of fascism and the horrible World War 2. Our strong partnership has ensured 80 years of peace in the western world. Furthermore, it was always a country of inventions. Technologically, but also culturally. I love American music.

It is extremely shocking to see how democracy is dying rapidly in the USA. It really can be compared with the events that happened in Germany in 1933. The democratic structures are getting shattered by a group of narcissists that are interested in the extension of their own power and wealth only. Millions of Americans got fooled by the lies and conspiracy theories of a man that is absolutely not interested in the well-being of his voters. Furthermore, he destroys the backbone of our common security by betraying his Allies. I’m sure Vladimir Putin can’t stop laughing since weeks.

All this makes me sick. As a therapy for myself I had to write this song.

But I can’t post this song without having a look on my own country, too. Here in Germany, we just had elections and the neo-fascist of the AFD got more than 20%! So, you guys in the USA are just one step ahead of us. And we really should know it better! But people are forgetting so quickly. The last people of that generation who know what fascism and war really mean, will be gone in near future. Like my 90-year-old mother, who lost her home by an air strike in 1945.

All that is very frightening. So, let’s fight for democracy, wherever you guys are! Stay strong!

Float Your Boat - Collab with Lammbone, Al Wood and Dobbi

My old classic guitar stood in the corner of a room with broken strings for the last two or three years. My parents bought her* second hand in the early 80's as I was a kid. I learnt to play on her and later, as I had bought my first electric guitar, she was degraded to my party guitar. I took her almost everywhere and I didn't treat her right I have to admit. Many years later I realized what a fine guitar this is. The body, handmade of solid spruce and rosewood, is covered over and over with surface defects now. However she is still sounding nice I think. I changed the strings, wrote and recorded this piece of music which is my way to say „Sorry“ to my old faithful companion.

* I know in English a guitar is grammatically not a „she“ but an „it“, but not for me. A guitar is much more than just a thing.

Very often when I watch the news it makes me angry and feeling so helpless to see all the poverty, injustice and growing racism in the world. And it makes me even more angry to hear some so called politicians talking about the western values which have to be defended against the rest (poor part) of the world. Then I ask myself, what are these values they are talking about? Basically they had been developed during the time of the French Revolution of 1789 and were called "freedom, equality and fraternalism". These great ideas are valid not just for white Europeans or North Americans but explicitly  for all humans all over the world. So we must not be quiet when we face intolerance, ignorance or injustice in our personal lifes. That´s what each of us can do. We are not helpless.
