During the long Covid months I lost my creativity and connection to music somehow. Rarely played and listened. I guess it was a result of missing new impressions. Maybe some of you had similar experiences? However, I have started writing and recording again. First of all I would like to share this little acoustic instrumental. Hope you enjoy it!

Hope

Hey Everybody!
The war in the Ukraine has really pressed me down the last weeks. Haven't had much energy for anything. However, under the surface something was developing, growing in my head. Yesterday I picked myself up and started writing and recording. The song just happened to me, within two hours it was finished. All you hear was just first take recording, electric guitar and bass was fully improvised. That's not the way I work usually, but this time I decided to leave it just the way it is, despite of any flaws there are. But I wanted to keep the spontaneity of the recording.

If I would ever had the opportunity to raise some questions to the man in the Kremlin, I think it would be those:

As you might hear I had some problems with the low vocals since I had to work with the lowest range of my voice. Using  a capo on the guitar would have been a solution but I wanted to have the full acoustic guitar sound here.
If someone is interested to sing these parts (together with the low parts in the chorus line) just let me know. Would be glad, if someome would help.

Float Your Boat - Collab with Lammbone, Al Wood and Dobbi

My old classic guitar stood in the corner of a room with broken strings for the last two or three years. My parents bought her* second hand in the early 80's as I was a kid. I learnt to play on her and later, as I had bought my first electric guitar, she was degraded to my party guitar. I took her almost everywhere and I didn't treat her right I have to admit. Many years later I realized what a fine guitar this is. The body, handmade of solid spruce and rosewood, is covered over and over with surface defects now. However she is still sounding nice I think. I changed the strings, wrote and recorded this piece of music which is my way to say „Sorry“ to my old faithful companion.

* I know in English a guitar is grammatically not a „she“ but an „it“, but not for me. A guitar is much more than just a thing.

Very often when I watch the news it makes me angry and feeling so helpless to see all the poverty, injustice and growing racism in the world. And it makes me even more angry to hear some so called politicians talking about the western values which have to be defended against the rest (poor part) of the world. Then I ask myself, what are these values they are talking about? Basically they had been developed during the time of the French Revolution of 1789 and were called "freedom, equality and fraternalism". These great ideas are valid not just for white Europeans or North Americans but explicitly  for all humans all over the world. So we must not be quiet when we face intolerance, ignorance or injustice in our personal lifes. That´s what each of us can do. We are not helpless.

On the earth tonight

Two days ago I went through my collection of old lyrics. Suddenly I stopped as I found a song that we had created at any time in the 90's. I remember that day very well. We sat in the kitchen of my old friend Dobbi, drinking beer and playing guitar (very common activity those days) as he suddenly came up with the lyrics, an idea for a melody and this G / C9 chord combination. I just added the chorus chord progression  and the song was ready.
We did an earlier recording in 1997 but unfortunately I lost that take. Since I really think this one should not be forgotten, I decided to pick up my guitar and start the recorder.  Hope you enjoy it!
