Learners of Winnie Mandela Secondary school were pleasantly surprised this morning as many went home with new school uniforms. Executive Mayor Mzwandile Masina accompanied by MMC Cllr. Lesiba Mpya and MMC Cllr. Doctor Xhakaza visited the high school in Tembisa to donate School uniforms and pledge bursaries for learners who did well in matric in 2016. 

“Excellence must be rewarded and it is also our responsibility to ensure that you are all resourced to learn”. Mayor Masina said.
The learners were inspired and encouraged by motivational speaker Siya Xuza , an exceptional motivational speaker who graduated from Harvard University. 

The #BackToTheFuture programme continues as the Executive Mayor will visit Matshediso School for learners with special needs in Tsakane, as well as Mpotsheng High school in Katlehong on friday.

Zimbabwe’s situation is bad “ - Julius Malema 

“Zimbabwe’s situation is bad. President Mugabe can’t even control a spade. He is no longer capable of discharging his responsibilities,” said Malema.
“We don’t hate the man. They can respond and insult us anyhow they want, but they are a group of cowards, those comrades in Zanu-PF to be scared to say to an old man like President Mugabe, please with due respect let go,” he added.

Malema said his party was in support of most of Mugabe's actions, especially on the land issue.
“His overstay is not doing justice on the African revolution project. He is destroying his own legacy.
We celebrate Mugabe. We celebrate what he has done and we will continue his legacy, but grandpa it’s enough now. You must let go and allow other people to continue that legacy.”
Malema also blasted the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party, saying it’s not alternative in Zimbabwe.
“We are not even talking about MDC. MDC is not an alternative in Zim. It’s imperialist puppet that seeks to undermine the legitimate land question in Zimbabwe. We are not aligned to anything that seeks to reverse the land question and we genuinely believe that comrades in Zanu-PF who are young can continue," Malema said.

Siyaqhuba will focus on the accelerated rollout of basic services; water and sanitation; environmental management; transport and BRT in the Thembisa area; the rollout of 24-hour clinics and pick up points; implementation of the 10-point economic revival plan; and road construction and stormwater infrastructure. It will also deal with the prompt turnaround time to service delivery complaints.

Labour federation, Cosatu has added its voice to growing calls for President Jacob Zuma to step down saying it no longer believes in his leadership abilities as head of state.

“Cosatu no longer believes that the president is the right person to unite and lead the movement, the [tripartite] alliance and the country,” Cosatu general secretary, Bheki Ntshalintshali told journalists in Johannesburg on Tuesday. Already, the ANC’s other alliance partner, the South African Communist Party (SACP) said at the weekend that Zuma must go. The ANC’s integrity committee on Monday, penned a letter to ANC secretary general, Gwede Mantashe recommending the president vacate office as head of state, for bringing the organisation into disrepute. 

Both Cosatu and the SACP were instrumental in ensuring that Zuma was elected as ANC president in 2007 and the president of the country in 2009. The relationship, has since soured with Cosatu publicly expressing support for deputy president, Cyril Ramaphosa.

Said Ntshalintshali, “We think that after all his undeniable contributions to both the movement and the government, the time has arrived for him to step down and allow the country to be led forward by a new collective at a government level.”

Cosatu said it intends on communicating its decision to the ANC.

Justifying its reasons for calling on Zuma to step aside, Cosatu said the president has abandoned democratic consultation and transparency.

“This [is] combined with the alleged undue influence that is apparently exerted by the Gupta family in the office of the president like the constitutional court judgement and this apology on Nkandla,” Ntshalintshali continued.

Cosatu intends on asking Zuma to explain his recent cabinet reshuffle and why the federation was not consulted for the first time since he took office in 2009.

The federation accused Zuma of failing to deal with ‘incompetent’ ministers in his cabinet, saying it proved that the reshuffle was not based on merit but on political loyalty.

However, Cosatu did not disagree with Zuma’s decision to fire Pravin Gordhan and Mcebisi Jonas. Instead, it countered that Gordhan, like all other finance ministers before him, was “captured and transformed by the [Treasury] instead of them transforming the institution.”

“There is no finance minister who has been a friend of the workers including Pravin Gordhan, so going forward we will support the new minister where necessary and fight with him where necessary.”

Cosatu  Speaks on Zuma

President Jacob Zuma has appealed to the faithful to pray for the country. Zuma spoke briefly to thousands of members of the Universal Church of God assembled to mark Good Friday at Ellis Park, Johannesburg.

Zuma has told worshippers that he likes the church because it keeps Christianity simple.

The President has had a tough week, with tens of thousands of people protesting in Pretoria on his birthday - calling on ordinary ANC members to back calls for Zuma to step down.  

The rand continues to trade below R14 to the dollar after Zuma's axing of Pravin Gordhan as Finance Minister.

Two credit ratings agencies - S&P and Fitch - downgraded South Africa after Zuma's move.

Zuma has wished all Christians well this Good Friday.

President Zuma appeals for prayers on Good Friday

Executive Mayor of Johannesburg Herman Mashaba officially opened the newest temporary exhibition “The Goldene Medina: Celebrating 175 Years of Jewish Life in SA.” Created by the South African Jewish Museum, and brought to the JHGC with the support of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies.

This exhibition is a celebration of the birth and evolution of a community. It tells the story of the SA Jewish community from 1841 to 2016; comprising of a collection of personal anecdotes, indicative of the shared experiences of the community.

“We are proud to have two thirds of the Jewish community, numbering some 80 000 people in this grey city of Johannesburg,” said Johannesburg’s executive mayor, Herman Mashaba, speaking to a capacity audience at the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre earlier this week. He was the guest speaker at the opening of The Goldene Medina, an exhibition celebrating 175 years of Jewish life in South Africa.

The exhibition can be viewed weekdays from 8.30am-5pm and select Sunday from 9am-3pm (21 and 28 May; 4 and 11 June). Running until 18 June! For group or school bookings contact thuli@jhbholocaust.co.za

Herman Mashaba Speaks at The Goldene Medina: Celebrating 175 Years of Jewish Life in SA.”

The African National Congress Youth League has named its top leadership preference for the ruling party’s elective conference.

After a two-day national executive committee meeting‚ Njabulo Nzuza‚ the league’s secretary general‚ said on Tuesday the ANCYL wanted leadership that would implement radical economic transformation.
That meant people who would pursue the following;
* 		expropriation of land without compensation;
* 		free and quality education;
* 		strengthen and improve the quality of public healthcare;
* 		build a state bank.
The ANCYL also put the following names forward:
* 		Nkosazane Dlamini-Zuma as president;
* 		David Mabuza as deputy president;
* 		Ace Magashule as secretary general;
* 		Nathi Mthethwa as the national chairperson;
* 		Deputy secretary general for monitoring and evaluation‚ Jessie Duarte;
* 		Deputy secretary general for organising and campaigns‚ Fikile Mbalula; and
* 		Maite Nkoana-Mashabane as treasurer general.

Nzuza added  the league was of the view that there was a need to have two deputy secretaries general to deal with issues of monitoring‚ evaluation and campaigns.

He concluded by saying the youth league would release its own critique of the ANC discussion documents‚ asserting youth interest as part of its contribution to the national policy conference.

According to Nzuza The league also wants the ANC to look beyond credentials of “going to exile” when electing leadership and consider leaders with a good track record produced post 1994.

ANCYL names its top leadership choices

African National Congress deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa urged other organisations in the tripartite alliance to continue speaking out when mistakes are made.

In reiterating a call he made previously, Ramaphosa told 576 delegates at Nehawu's 11th national congress in Boksburg that not speaking out was a betrayal to the mission undertaken by the alliance.
Nehawu gave Ramaphosa a blanket, saying that, when he was at home, he could wrap himself up and know that the union stood behind him.

"We cannot effect meaningful change if we become complacent; if we become comfortable with our own positions in the status quo," said Ramaphosa.

He said being complacent meant being silent when watching a section of the alliance making mistakes, and allowing them to continue with the mistake without saying anything about it.

"That is an [un]revolutionary act that is actually a betrayal of our revolution," said Ramaphosa.

He said measures needed to be taken by the liberation movement to correct its weaknesses.
