"Being an 80s baby, I remember growing up seeing movies from the 70s and 80s. A lot of them were Sci-Fi and Horror flicks. Aside from the movies usually being pretty bizarre, I was always attracted to the types of music and textures that were used. Even today, I'm usually attracted to the 'soundtrack' sections in vinyl shops, interested in finding those textures. From doing that over the course of many years, I've noticed a consistent use in a small handful of vintage keyboards/synths during that era. These synthesizers are some of my favorite, most legendary ever created. I'm talking about the Prophet 8, Arp Odyssey, Emu Proteus 2000 & the ever popular Mini Moog. Utilizing these actual synthesizers, I've created a set of 20 COMPLETELY ORIGINAL compositions, all played and composed by me. So I thought, why not? Here's a take on the old BBC series where kids were controlling one of their friends as a Knight in a castle full of riddles, mazes and dangers using verbal commands. I've taken the liberty of making up some extra parts beyond the first 40 second intro clip as usual.

In this instalment of game music done on old gear, it's time to tackle Tyrian 2000! A brilliant piece of game music from the famous @Alexander Brandon who made such classics as Jazz Jackrabbit 2, Deus Ex, Unreal and many others. This has also been featured on @LGR and it seems the majority out there favours the Adlib version to the MT-32/SC-55, so it was with a bit of trepidation I started working on this, trying to keep it up to standard with what people love about it out there.

Initially I set out to do the intro music too, but landed on just the "Tyrian - The Level" segment which seems to be the most recognised theme from the game. As with all the other songs in this series, I also opted for some extrapolation and added a little more parts and extended the song - the original is after all only 24 measures on endless repeat, which would have become a bit boring for 3.5 minutes.

All the sounds are from the KORG M1Rex, the expanded module version of the classic M1 keyboard. Everything was recorded part for part and bit for bit, which took a substantial amount of time when trying and failing as I went along. Some extra processing in form of EQ, compression, chorus, delay, and reverb were added. The M1Rex doesn't have a ride cymbal, or at least a proper one that could be used, so there is a little Roland TR-707 ride at the last rounds of the theme.
