I was watching footage of restored 12-meter yachts racing off of Newport, RI, and wanted to write something that captures the joy I take in watching beautiful old yachts under sail.  Of course in the writing process it morphed into something else, and with the bells I think it might be better billed as a Christmas tune.

Twelves on the Sound

This one could stand as a solo acoustic guitar piece, in my humble opinion.  Of course when recording it I had to add in bass, drums, and synth strings.

The Whimsical One

I wanted to write a sailing fantasy piece with changing moods like changing sailing conditions.

Meander

Well if you can't beat 'em, join them.  Browsing through the YouTube Audio Library I find a whole lot of electronic music.  So I think to myself: I need to write something like that.  Don't worry, there's still guitars in here, just a lot of electronic texturing.

Well it happened again.  I set out to write a mellow video soundtrack when my Stratocaster jumped in and took over.

Hello Today

So I upgraded to Mixcraft 9 and had to try out all the new toys.  Lots of overdubs on this one.  Still centers around a guitar riff though, with a solo at the end.

Another "organic growth piece" -- started off with a finger pattern on guitar and let everything grow out of it.  Toward the end I wasn't sure where to go, so I picked up my Stratocaster and threw in kind of crazy sounding solo.  That made me feel better.

I am an amateur songwriter and musician.  I write and record these music tracks for my YouTube channel "How to Sail Oceans", typically as background sound for an intro or exit clip.  It's a lot of work, but a lot of fun too!
