A life-long friend of Toolroom since it’s inception and absolute legend of the electronic music scene, Shadow Child debuts on the label with ‘Rising High’. His career within this alias spans an impressive 12 years, kicking things off back in 2012 with ‘String Thing’; a record snapped up by Claude von Stroke’s Dirytbird label that simply took the dance world by storm.

From that point onwards a consistent flow of strong releases have appeared from his shadowy lair and been unleashed onto the dancefloors of the world to devastating effect. Labels including Hot Creations, Apollo Music and Moda Black have released his music, attracting a loyal fanbase in the process. Regular DJ spots include the mighty Fabric in London, Warehouse Project in Manchester and Motion in Bristol. This record fuses all of Shadow Childs passions; old skool rave, techno and let’s not forget that incredible vocal sample from ‘The Beloved’. Milan-based DJ & producer Skylin3 is one of our favourite new artists. His version of this Beyonce classic dropped at the end of last year, and DJs loved it. From the underground tech (Miane, Alan Nieves, Jamie Jones) to the house heads (Erik Hagleton, Sam Supplier, CASSIMM) to those more used to big-stage bangers (Torren Foot, Wenzday, Shiba San), there was an outpouring of love. The wider DJ community might have slept on this one, so we asked Kevin McKay to deliver a VIP edit to see if this could get the ball rolling. He's jacked up the beats and added a powerful FM mid-bass to jet-propel the groove—proper peak-time business.
