Have you ever met someone whose modesty is wildly disproportionate to their accomplishments?

That’s Shawn Harris in a nutshell. The Georgia-born cattle rancher who spent 40 years in the military - serving in Afghanistan and reaching the rank of general - is so “aww shucks” about his storied life that one can’t help but implore him to brag a little more. 

But that’s just not his style. 

Nowadays, Harris is hoping to add “politician” to his impressive resume by taking on none other than GOP firebrand and conspiracy-monger Marjorie Taylor Greene. 

Harris says he’s managed to court Republican voters who are tired of MTG’s antics on Capitol Hill and obsequiousness to all things MAGA. He even contends that the more offensive and outrageous Greene is leading up to Election Day, the better his chances are of winning. 

And despite the fact that Harris has called out the congresswoman repeatedly to debate him, Greene’s team hasn’t agreed to meet. 

In our discussion, Harris talks about the race, issues facing Georgians and all Americans, guns in the wake of a recent school shooting in Georgia, and much more.

Democratic candidate Maryam Abolfazli is taking on one of Tennessee’s most notorious MAGA congressmen in defense of women’s reproductive rights, sensible gun laws, and a better tomorrow for her 6-year-old son.

Maryam Abolfazli is one of those people who grows more interesting the longer you listen to them talk. 

A native Tennessean of Iranian ancestry, Abolfazli spent part of her early 20s in Afghanistan, working for the United Nations and assisting the Afghan government in rebuilding its war-damaged water infrastructure.

Her experience aiding those in need in part inspired her decision to run for Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District against GOP Rep. Andy Ogles, an election-denying, ant-abortion, gay-marriage-hating, firebrand with legal problems.

Jeff's most recent work can be seen on National Geographic's "Chain of Command," which focuses on the war against violent extremism and the people who fight radical threats worldwide.

She is also part of the Post-Gazette team that received the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news reporting for coverage of the Tree of Life synagogue massacre.
